Ford 9N, Ford 640, Stihl Farm Boss,
My friend bought what I thought to be a jubilee Ford tractor but not sure. The numbers are all 3106xx

If I were a betting man, I'd say that is a 1957 or 1958 Ford PowerMaster 801 with the 5 speed. Definitely newer than the Jubilee, the "egg crate grille" gives that away. (new in 57/58)

Here's some helpful info on the subject >> Identifying Old Ford Tractors

I agree with Sysop. We ran an 861 for over 30 years with a FEL. That tractor loaded literally thousands of round bales of hay over the years. What transmission does it have? That will shed some light in addition to power steering, diesel, etc. Really great tractors.

It has a wierd shifter kinda goes up and down rather than the traditional way. you push down or pull up to get it to shift. It is a diesel can't remember the powersteering.

Sounds like selecto speed gearbox, the granddaddy of all modern Powershift transmision

The 861 we had was that way. I believe 5 speed, power steering, live power is an 861. SoundGuy is the Ford guru on here.

Selecto uses a small lever mounted on the steering wheel cowl, nothing on the tranny.

What he's describing is a 5 speed with vertical neutral gate, shift lever on the tranny cover.

Overszd is correct. Very common on those units. I know that when Dad traded for the 861 he told me that the 861 was very desirable in the 800 series. They were very popular around here and lots of them worked on the farm. Ours was used over 30 years and never gave any trouble. We sold it last year to a gentleman who restores Fords and has quite a selection. Worked out great for me. I now have a contact for used parts for my 4610 SU. He bought the 861 for his wife to use on the farm. It had the Ford FEL and external pump on the front of the tractor. When he started the restore the front axle was cracked along with the front bushings being worn out. Those front axles are not the strongest for FEL use. Parts are not an issue.
