What is this extra hose for on my 990?

Please take a look at these pictures. I am not sure what this extra hose is for on the 990. It is connected to nothing. However the decal states that it is "from remote valve". The one labeled "to remote valve" goes to the 8B BH and then the lower one is where the 8B connects to the system.

I would love to think that I can hook something else to the hydraulics but it does not look like there is another connection somewhere.

If I remember correctly, the hose is used to complete the "loop" when you unhook what ever the item you have hooked on the tractor now. It keeps the hydraulic oil from deadheading and causing pump damage/failure.

It's Power Beyond. For hookup to something that has it's own hydraulic valve(s), such as a backhoe. When you unhook the hose you will have two hookup points, the hose and where the hose was connected. The implement will have two hookup points also.

Zebrafive, I recognize that it is power beyond. I have an 8B BH hooked up right now and you can see the hose attachments in my pictures for the BH. However there is this 3rd hose which is not hooked to anything. Maybe Joecdeere has the answer to this which means whenever I disconnect the BH and do not hook anything else up I need to connect this hose into the one that is disconnected. that may be crucial to do so or maybe one blows a pump or somthing like that. this would be very good to know since I don't want to blow or damage anything.

This is probably the PB circuit below.

Could be the loop hose necessary when not using the BH and it would connect to the bottom right female QD to complete the circuit to the 3pt.

Ok, I see what you are saying. Pictures are with the BH (backhoe) on.

First hose is from BH. Supply to BH.
Second (middle) hose is from tractor not connected.
Third hose is from BH. Return from BH.

It looks like the 990 has a more direct return to sump for the BH's return hose (Third hose), instead of connecting it to the Second hose ( the one not connected).

When the BH is off you will connect this Second hose to the coupler to the left where your BH's First hose (supply) is connected. You DO want to make this loop when ever the BH is off.

Out of curiousity, does the rockshaft raise/lower with the backhoe hoses attached? My guess is no.

I think you're only supposed to have two. It's a continuous loop, constantly flowing, and cannot be restricted. The hose hanging free on the top plate normally connects to the other connection on the top plate to make a loop for the system. Your backhoe should connect through those two top connections. Mine doesn't have the third connection to the lower right.

I wonder if someone plumbed the "from remote valve" connection in that spot to the lower right because it was easier than trying to connect it where it was supposed to go (at the top). That's the only explanation I can come up with.

I purchased a JD1070 with 8B hoe at auction last summer. Mine is plumbed identical to Rob's JD990 with 8B hoe.

I forgot to add - my rockshaft does not raise/lower with the backhoe plumbing attached.
