What is the purpose of this rod?

This rod is connected to the clutch pedal but does not move when the clutch pedal is depressed. What is the purpose of this rod?

so... since you have the tractor.. have you actually followed the rod back? where does it go? brake cross shaft?

On some older Fords, there is a 2 stage clutch for the PTO. Our 1710 was like that. Part way down disengaged the transmission but left the PTO running. All the way down disengaged the PTO (even if the PTO lever was engaged).

and? that's all taken care of at the clutch and input shaft! hollow or solid. solid and single stage clutch + non live. hollow with 2 shafts and 2 stage clutch is live. hollow and 2 piece shaft and single stage clutch would be an independent setup ( later models )

Well, Crankypants, that rod is adjustable. I no longer have the 1710, but that is reminiscent of the adjusting rod on the old 1710. Clearly you know the answer here and simply are yanking his chain. It's on the clutch side, so I don't see how it could possibly be attached to the brake system.

Sorry, not my problem that you dint know how a 2 stage clutch works!

So the rod goes back to where? Remember, pic 1 shows a forward rod too.

I can't get the first picture to load, but from the second picture, it looks like the LH side looking back to the rear axle on a Japanese Ford. If so, that is the LH brake rod. The clutch bellcrank pivots on the LH brake shaft that travels from the right side of the tractor, but other than that it doesn't have any relation to the brake.
