You see on some saller tractors that they accept a catagory o o1 1 equipment on their 3pt hitch. Other tractors say they accept a catagory 2 on a 3pt hitch. What is the difference?

A lot of times it depends on the size of the tractor and the size/weight of the attachment. If you see that will take Cat 0 or Cat 1 attachments, it usually means you may need bushings to make it fit properly. Take a look here for the size differences.

I noticed that one of the differences is how far spread apart the arms are.

All categories have standards, such as hitch width, hitch length, width of ball end, diameter of ball end, etc. There are variances or ranges of acceptable dimensions in each category, so some category I implements will slightly differ but still work on a cat. I hitch.
