There are several products on the market. Gunk is but one of them. Best?? I haven't tried them all, but find Gunk works for me.
Scraping the bulk of it off with a putty knife is what I do, as a lot of it is dirt mixed with oil.
Then spray on the Gunk-like product, hose off with hot water (or cold if hot not available), and do a second application if not satisfied with the first.
Plug up any entry points where you don't want water to get in first.
We like pics, especially before and after ones.

I use on of the degreaser products at the auto parts store. Spray it on and let it sit to do its work then use a pressure washer to wash it off. There is usually very little left to clean.
Just wear eye protection using a pressure washer since water can spray back at you from all the nooks and crannies.
I think the best way is with a hot water steam jenny which I don't own but have used them in the past.

The Gunk degreasing products as mentioned above are about as "strong" a chemical as I would use, knowing what I know now. Do not use over 1700 psi either. That is, unless you plan to replace oil seals and axle packing.

I use castrol "Super Clean". Use it in my power washer. It will stain aluminum though and dont let it stay on painted items long. It does a great job. Just follow the direction and rinse off real good. Use for my 4 wheeler on the plastic and makes it look new...on the new Bota all over after pla....working in the dirt. Keeps it all nice and new looking. For real grime, use with hot water. Will strip the grime in no time. Get it at wally worlds for about 8.00 a gal when they have it.
