What is some of your Pet Peeve's

My peeve is the people in our neighborhood who mow their yards on the lowest setting on the mower. Then they leave the ugly brown grass laying there until the next week. You cut the grass to even it out, not to lower the height. People stop and tell me that my yard looks better than any in the neighborhood and ask me what I do and I tell them that it is mowed as high as possible. Usually at the Bad Boys highest deck setting. Then they go home and scalp the grass off their own yards. I mow once a week, just like they do.

And the guy across the road has had a low tire all year. It's on the right side and when he turns it mows an inch or more lower on that side. Come on man, have a little pride.

Off my soap box now and on the my summer job of hauling grandkids to various things their parents have signed them up for but have no way of taking them.

People who dump trash illegally have a major character flaw. Punishing them isn't going to change anything. They were obviously raised as a self centered lowlife slob and it carried over into their adult lives. Tell me I am wrong.....

I've always tried to do whatever I've been asked to on a job. One of the few times I balked was when I was told to clean out the ash trays in a company truck. I said that I didn't smoke and didn't feel that it was my responsibility.
He said to do it anyways which I did; mostly because he was good to work for and I respected him.

When I was an apprentice sprinkler fitter the foreman told me to go clean the break area, pick up the cigarette butts and the food scraps on the floor, I told him that is not my job because I didn’t and wouldn’t throw trash on the floor.

He said later that day our superintendent was coming to the job and he was gonna have a talk to him about me, I said good, when he’s done, I’m gonna have a talk with him about you, he said don’t worry about it. Let’s get back to work.

Want to guess which lawn is mine? Yeah... the only green one in the middle!

Same issue, I watch the rest of my neighbors let their lawn grow up to 9" height, and then whack it down to 3". If they don't manage to kill it on a hot week, it usually ends up looking as cooked as the one in the southeast corner of the photo.

Cut your grass according to the season. We cut to just under 4" every 3-4 days, spring and fall, when the damn stuff is growing 6" per week. We raise that to 4.5" mid-summer, and might only have to mow every second week or less, when the heat and draught set in. As we approach the last three weeks of the season, we work it down toward 3.5" or less for winterization, to avoid snow mold problems.

Takes no effort to police your trash… maybe too few scouts in today’s world?

I volunteer to police a small section of creek and find tires, shopping carts, busted bottles, etc.

More recently it’s doggy pooper bags in the creek.

Someone once asked me to describe a place where I would like to live and I said let’s start with a place where private property is respected and people pick up after themselves…

Trash and graffiti are frequent complaints about my city and I have caught a few dumpers and each one was from nearby cities coming to my city to dump or abandoned cars…
I remember that Monroe LA lost a chance at a Toyota plant due to all the trash along 1-20. @ 30 years ago.

I mow mine at about that height too, though a big part of the reason is that most of it is uneven and there are enough high spots or rocks for the blade to hit. Grass itself grows quite evenly, it doesn't get scraggly like it did at my last place.
Wife keeps telling me to cut it shorter so I "won't have to mow as often".
