There's a local retailer already pushing that they are the best place for last minute gift buying.
Last minute?
It's Nov. 18. Last I checked Christmas eve is Dec. 24.
Maybe this belongs in the YKYO thread, but when I was a kid a lot of retailers' ads on the radio started with a reminder of how many shopping days remained until Christmas. Then again, stores were typically closed on Sunday so the number of shopping days was fewer than actual days.

Christmas gifts for only those that still believe in Santa Claus. Apparently, Christmas is one of the most stressful seasons of the year. People that cann,t afford having to buy useless gifts for everyone, because they are forced to exchange gifts. How about a drink, a nice meal together, and no crazy high credit card bills to pay off in January, or for the rest of the year.

Why is it so hard to cancel something when someone close to you passes? I won't bother you with the process I went thru to cancel a deceased loved ones netflix account. I also I don't wish on my worst enemy trying to cash in a loved ones life insurance policy. I could peeve for hrs on trying to take care of a deceased persons affairs. Sry for your loss btw.

Worse for me was sitting there trying to look happy about something while thinking "Whatinthe **** am I supposed to do with this?" We didn't go all out like some apparently do. But realistically,
Christmas gifts for only those that still believe in Santa Claus.
is spot on. Although the last few years that my extended family got together were some of the best in my adult life... rather than exchanging gifts we bought for people off the tree at my parent's church.
The first year one woman asked for toilet paper. Say what you want but I can't comprehend needing that so badly that you would ask for it that way. Along with some of her other requests she got toilet paper... Everybody there brought at least a couple of rolls. :D

By the end though, all that people were asking for is gift cards. I haven't participated in Christmas for years, except a donation to the SA and money for a couple of local food pantries.
I've come to enjoy being Scrooge and Grinch combined.

Just terminate all credit cards. Netflix and others will quickly follow, after a bounced billing cycle or three.

MY wife and I took over my dad's accounts for cell service and life alert etc. He gladly pays us once a year for everything we put in our name instead of his. Made a generous donation to my late mother's meals on wheels after I found out she qualified for free meals obviously I didn't tell my mom who lived over 500 miles from me at the time. I can't say enough good things how social services for aging folks helped my mother after my donation, and helping me handling her personal affairs after her passing. My dad and late step mom supposedly have everything set up when he eventually passes. However I don't think they acknowledge the differences of opinions on my step moms side and my bio sisters particularly. You can choose your friends you can't choose biological family members I guess. I'm sure I'll unfortunately have more peeving in the future.

Sometimes it pays to be an only child, eh? 🤣 But in the words of my former boss, “if your mom didn’t have them, then you would have all of her!”

I have one surviving sibling on my side, and being in healthcare management, she actually carries more of the weight on arranging elder care than I do. But she also draws on the estate for loans and expenses, since she struggles more with finances than I do. It all works out.

I’ll have to execute on the estate when it’s all done, my sister isn’t one to be dealing with the financial end of anything, but expect I’ll just split the liquid assets and then leave everything else to her. She has both more time invested and more interest in that stuff, than I do. Things have a way of balancing out.

It definitely was much easier dealing with my late moms stuff alone with the help of social services after she passed. Unfortunately both of her daughters my biological sisters wanted nothing to do with her when she was alive. Anyways I can go on peeving about clearly obvious cynical assumptions I came up with but won't. When I was much younger and selfishly stupid I was Problaby brought up in the old saying of choosing friends not family members.

Speaking of peeving about gifts one thing I learned instead of getting your folks a pair of socks or an electronic device they won't or can't figure out how to use without causing mass frustrations on both ends. Simply including them in your family vacations especially winter ones heading south if they live in a snowbelt if they insist on paying for some or all of it just planning it out and including/ helping them is a perfect gift for them in my case. Plus less unused usually unopened clutter ime. 😂

Since we're on the subject, can I mention something about inheritance? My 83 year old father has a will. Everything goes to my mother if she's still alive when he passes. After that, everything goes to me and my sister 50/50. He has one grandson (my son). I would like him to amend his will to include my son if I pass before my father. Otherwise I believe my son will be left out completely and my sister will get 100% of his estate.

He wants the same but doesn't want to discuss it. He says "everything will work out". It's a touchy subject and I hate bringing it up to him. I don't trust my sister to do the right thing by my son.
