Agree with you on cellphones, but this is hardly restricted to younger generations...many boomers are just as bad.

As far as "kids these days" goes, I'm sure when our grandparents were young their elders said the same thing about them. We boomers are hardly the first generation to claim how much more industrious, virtuous, polite people were in "our" day.
I carry a work cell and only for work but sometimes I found perception of call can be negative when in cell compared to a landline.

The public will usually be patient if the work phone landline rings and I take a call… not always the case if the work cell rings and I take a call…

Maybe… I heard my step grandfather praise returning WWII vets as being focused on catching up, advancement and ready for fast track.

They were in general highly motivated, wanted extra hours and very dependable.

These are non employees… often the purps have no connection with facility.

On the way home a clean 2019 Mercedes was tossing out fast food trash, speeding and blatantly blowing stop signs… not as if they just robbed a place but as if they couldn’t care less…

Sad state because there is no excuse but I guess it’s kicks for them.

Probably good I was not selected for the police academy because I would have zero tolerance…
I would gather this in most cases is cultural.

While living/working in many poorer countries, we saw people throwing trash out of their cars along the road.
I asked people in quite a few places why, they said if their was no trash, the people who get paid to pick it up would lose their jobs.
The same answer in multiple towns, in multiple countries.

Even the not stopping at stop signs or lights is common in a lot of places, where stopping is dangerous.

One of my coworkers told us about his mother visiting.
When she saw his house, made of wood and out in the open without walls or fence, she freaked out.
"You have a nice house, how will you stop people from breaking in with an axe?"

We live in a very different world than where most people grow up, eventually it's unlearned, but only if they are in diverse neighborhoods. Seem to stick around when everyone is from the same place.

I do think it’s cultural… not as many Boy Scouts might be a factor?

Across the board I see 99% sharing similar traits and for those driving cars I would venture home grown in the SF Bay Area.

Without getting in too deep one trait would be under 30 years of age…

Another group are non native day laborers… any wrapper, container, etc. simply drops to the ground when done.

Foreman friend that runs paving crews said it’s a real problem… same for drywall, framing and roofing…

I’m probably more focused because of the several acres of Hospital parking lot I oversee… it can be spotless and 24 hours later 2-3 medium trash bags of trash accumulates… at least no longer finding the volumes of masks and gloves from just a few years back.

In order… now it’s fast food trash, diapers and liquor bottles…

If gun makers can be held liable for how their products are used why can’t fast food and diaper makers be held to the same?

I had to step away from a quiet Sunday at home…

Hospital Medical Gas door alarm…

Arrived and found the door pried open and 3 “E” cylinders of Nitrous Oxide missing.

We have an uptick of transients and I pointed the officers to the closest camp..

Sure enough the 3 cylinders were there in a shopping cart…

No one at the camp knows how they got there but I have them back…

I did have a Pelco security mounted camera for the area stolen 3 times… no camera now.

The high security wall mount bracket with through bolts had the heads of the bolts ground off and the hole thing taken…

Administrator texted to confirm the loss of 3 cylinders and I texted back Not Anymore…

What do they do with Nitrous? I'm not a druggie, so I am not up on these things.....

I think the rose-colored glasses of historical memory is another factor. People forget how much trash littered our own highways in the 1970's, at a time when the Boy Scouts were at peak popularity.

Anyone remember the "crying Indian" PSA from the 1970's? Wasn't that part of a campaign against rampant littering?

I had the joy of watching a high school student in Berzerkely reach with both hands into the bag of fast food she was carrying, and in one smooth move extract the food while shedding all the packaging onto the sidewalk. Didn't even break stride.

We need some laws to stop this kind of behavior - ban humans!
