News flash: With Tamara still weak from surgery I generally have to do both! Jeez, I don't even have a decent excuse to get out of things! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sorry to hear that. Hope she continues to recover.

If it was one or two bales that were dusty, I would point hte finger at wet hay that has molded. Not good stuff to breathe. Even dry has is dusty when handled a fair amount but it is mostly cellulose fibres. These aren't much better and I understand that your body can never really expel them from your lungs.

Sorry Boondox, I didn't know about the surgery. I hope the wife recovers quicjky. Meanwhile, stay the heck away from the hay, unless you wear a decent mask.

Hey Doc -

Thanks for that excellent post - it was a great reminder to us all not to take our lungs for granted.

Which brings me to my question: what's your take on an irritant to which each and every one of us is exposed regularly - diesel exhaust. I've just been reading about how lungs have a little trouble getting rid of carbon "bucky balls" like those found in cigarette smoke, and I'm guessing, diesel "soot" as well. A while ago I read about centrifugal devices that can remove some of the heavier particulates from diesel exhaust.

Overkill? Boy, I don't know. Breathing, lung function and cancer are pretty serious topics. I'd love to hear your thoughts regarding the dangers of diesel exhaust and what precautions you think might make sense.

Thanks, John

And Pete - I sure hope you're feeling better. I went to the doc yesterday thinking I might have pneumonia, but it's just a bad chest cold combined with a pretty bad sinus infection. I haven't smoked a ciggie in about 2 weeks; think I'll keep that streak going, so maybe I can outlive my tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My wife's uncle died at 55 from lung cancer. He was a OTR deisel truck driver.
