What is a leveling box?

I've seen ads for a leveling box assembly. Can someone tell me what the purpose is?

Thanks LS Tractor, I didn't know what that was and didn't understand Willy's description either. Now I realize it's a "manual" hydraulic link. Good to know, although I'll never need one.

It's a lot better than the damnable turnbuckles the machines tend to come with, and cheaper than a hydraulic tilt.

This is the most refined form of the original on a 1951 Ford 8n. It was first invented by Harry Ferguson and offered to the public, in partnership with Henry Ford on the Ford model 9n, in 1939:

For many years, ag tractors like our old JD had hand-crank box levelers on both 3pt lift arms.
The lift arms were telescoping with automatic latching. Implement side sway was limited by adjustable blocks rather than chains. Zerks on everything.
That combo made the 3pt very easy to adjust and use.

I have a 9N and a Yanmar YM2310. I have been looking at leveling boxes online so that I can buy one, or even two, for my Yanmar. So far though all the ones I have seen don't have dimensions listed just what model tractor they are made for. Darn it.

Our IH tractors (464's, 574) from the 70's and 80's came with one on the right side. Good for plowing that first pass or tilting a rear blade to start a ditch was all we used them for.
