What is a Cab Worth?

How many cab owners have broken their glass? We need a survey!

I have 2 cabbed tractors. On my L5740, I've broken the front glass once. On my L6060, I've broken the door once and the front glass twice. The door was broken when I was attaching something to the back of the tractor and pulled forward while under my shed while looking back and hit the post of my shed.

All 3 of the front glasses were broken while hauling the tractors on my trailer between jobs. At about $600 each, it gets expensive and the last 2 happened about 2 weeks apart on the L6060. I now have a glass protector that I use every time I transport either of my tractors.

I started with open station tractors, but....I went to a cab tractor when I found it very difficult to conduct business on the phone in an open station tractor. It's just too loud and I had to stop and reduce engine speed/noise ever time I got a phone call. Now, in a cab, I wear earphones and can continue working and driving while on the phone. Also, in 90+ temps, 100%+ humidity and dusty field conditions, a cab is just much better for my needs.

You can see the windshield protector here on my tractor. And here is a link to the place where I ordered it. I just called them and told them what tractor I have and they custom made it to fit my tractor. Canvas Products for Agricultural, Commercial & Residential — Colby Canvas Company

It attaches with 6 bunge straps and I have not broken a windshield since I got these. The cost me about $275 each.

Have had cab tractors for 16 years. Currently have two and have never broken any glass -- thank goodness.

Also currently have an open station which is used when appropriate.

I like them all as they have there place. Never saw a tractor I didn't like.
