What if your engine needed replacing?

I really doubt that you need a whole new carb. It sound like the main jet is either restricted or too small. There may be a larger jet available, either from the engine manufacturer or the carb manufacturer. Motorcycle shops often stock jet kits.

As a last resort, you could ream out the jet, but that can be tricky.

This seems odd. I haven't been having any problems getting replacement and/or rebuild parts for the small engines I own from my local small engine dealer. They seem to have no troubles getting me exactly what I ask for. Try websites. They seem to have a lot of these kinds of things.

I agree with smartguyz. Main jets are very rarely tamperproof. It's not impossible, but I would be very surprised.

Parts that are not available from the engine manufacturer are often available through the carb manufacturer or the aftermarket. What kind of carb does your engine use?

Even though I have had terrible luck with Kohlers, when faced with replacing the engine on my PT425, I put another dang kohler. It was waaaaaaaay too much to modify it to accept a honda or any other one. I snapped the old one out and snapped the new one in in a m.orning Hardest part was getting the shaft cut to the right length. When I ordered the same model number, it came as a 27 hp instead of a 25 hp. They said this was the replacement?!?!?
