OK we have all heard from folks who are looking at used machine but WHAT IF some one wanted to buy your orange baby....What would you ask for it.
In my case the builder who built my new house was amazed at my orange toy....his very old Ford is dead again and he has been tractor shopping. I helpped him out today and he wants to know if it's for sale....Of course everything is for sale at a price....Actually it is a little large for the new place and I have been kicking around the idea of getting something smaller since moving in the fall (B7500 ,B2410?).....
Here are the specifics:
L2500DT w/ 227 hrs (new in june 98) mfg warranty expires in june 01
R1 (ags) filled w/ water antifreeze
dual element air cleaner
rear work lights
LB400 loader
garage kept and waxed frequently
I'm thinking in the $12,500 +- range since if he goes to see the local dealer he will pay 6% sales tax if he goes thru a dealer.

Also what would you ask for used implements (% of new price)

......My other thought is mine is not for sale! Relate to him my tractor buying experiences and advise him to skip the local guys and go see Stever Carver and get one from him..........

Last September I paid $14,100 (including tax) for my L2500DT w/LB400 loader. It was in excellent condition, 187 hours pulling apple carts and all maintenance done on shedule. I guess the only real difference was that I had them put on a brand new FEL, and they gave me an "as new" warranty on the whole package.

A few days earlier I had gotten a written quote from my local dealer on a new L2600DT similarly equipped, for $14,720 before the 8% sales tax. That would have made the grand total around $15,900.

If you want to follow that formula, check prices on new L2600's and then knock off a couple of grand.

Of course, you're in Steve Carver land, so prices on new rigs will undoubtedly be lower than here. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Really comes down to what a new one, with new features/warranty is worth to you. Price what you want, and what you're willing to pay over your old one and ask accordingly--all they can say is no.....

Keep in mind a contractor is used to seeing beat equipment, and probably drools looking at one cared for like family. He knows it's effectively new for his uses, and can depreciate it on his taxes (hmmm, maybe exagerate a bit on the purchase price when he does his taxes??)--and hence will pay a premium. Start a bit higher than your target, as contractors never pay the asking price. Good luck.

Like you we all take good care of our tractor investment.
If I was going to sell it would depend on the buyers attitude.
If he just starting out w/little funds and sincere I would offer a rock bottom price,but if he has a chip on his shoulder the price goes up and maybe not for sale.

All kind of depends.......

1) if you really were serious about getting a smaller tractor
2) do you kind of like the guy or not
3) would you be willing to part with the tractor for something less than you paid

I'm kind of with Thomas. If he treated me OK as a builder and I could help him out on price, I'd work out the best deal I could. If he was a "heartache" to deal with as a builder, the price would go up and would be a take it or leave it sale. Remember, no matter what happens, it has to be OK with you either way.
