What has more Torque???

What engine would have more torque with the same displacement?? A 20 HP 2 cylinder or a 20 HP 3 cylinder?? I would think the 2 cylinder because of the longer stroke but I'll wait for the experts here to respond........This was a little debate my son and I were having.

That would be ONE reason why the 2 cylinder MIGHT have more torque. There's dozens of "reasons" that effect an engines torque/HP output. It's entirely possible that 3-cylinder might be a better all-round performer. Not all answers are "black or white".

I meant to say that it was the same engine builder, same materials and design except one a 2 cylinder the other a 3 if this helps.

Lots of factors, but if the 3 cyl had twice the displacement of the 2 cylinder and the same HP that could affect it just as an example.

In the case of a governed lawn tractor engine where they both run at the same rpm, there would probably not be enough difference to notice.

You might try searching the web at the manufactureres sites that have one and two cylinder engines of the same HP and see the results.
