A couple of days ago, my computer automatically downloaded and installed the latest security updates from Microsoft. I don't know whether that's what caused the current change or not, but something changed in what's required in the "Address" bar. I used to be able to enter a partial address and now have to do the whole address. By that I mean, as an example, I could type "tractorbynet.com" in the address line and it would open the TBN window. But now it does nothing if that's all I type. I have to type the "http://www.tractorbynet.com". I'm guessing there's probably a setting somewhere to change it back, but don't know that to be a fact. Can anyone tell me how to change it?

Bird, not sure what happened. But here is a simple shortcut for you in the address bar. Just type in tractorbynet, then hold down control key and hit enter. It will finish out the address for you.

I never heard of that before, but like you said, it works. Thanks. I still don't understand why it used to do it without using the Ctrl key.

Well, I just ran Norton SystemWorks' One Button Checkup and it showed two errors in the registry (something about ActiveX) and it "fixed" them and now it's back like it was. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I guess as long as it's fixed, I don't need to understand it, huh? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And for a different shortcut, add the forums page to your favorites in the links folder (right there in the favorites column). Then you just click on the links folder at the end of the address bar and it drops down all your favorite links.

Oh yeah, Larry, I have TBN, CBN, and lots of other sites that I visit regularly on the favorites list. I just used TBN as an example. However, with my computer expertise, it would be logical for you to assume I didn't know about the "Favorites" so I appreciate the response. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Bird, try this:

This feature saves you time when you are typing Web addresses or completing entries on Web pages, by displaying a list of previous matching entries as you type. To turn AutoComplete on or off, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, click the Content tab, and then click the AutoComplete button.

That came from the IE Help files...if you're not using Internet Explorer, click on Help on your browser toolbar and search for Autocomplete.

Yeah, Roy, the autocomplete works, but I have my setting to erase the history after 5 days, and I periodically let Norton wipe out the history, cookies, etc.

I've got a related (I think) problem. Like Bird, I recently installed some updates. The next day I started having Bird's exact problem PLUS I can no longer add attachments to emails.

I use Outlook. The problem occurs with both new emails and replying to old emails. The instant I click on the attachment icon, Outlook locks up. I have to close it and reopen only to go through the same thing over & over. I can send and recieve messages; I just can't add an attachment. Any other open programs are not affected (they do not lock up).

Any ideas?
