What engine oil ?

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel is the best oil I have found. The engines both gas and diesel seem to run smoother. The diesel engines start much better when it's cold.

We run full syn 5W40. Won't bother with semi syn as it is somewhat a mystery as to how much syn is mixed with the dino oil. Amsoil makes a 10W30/30 syn diesel oil if you want to stick to that grade,

I run Amsoil 15w-40 full synthetic in my Massey 231. It has the 3 cylinder Perkins AD3.152 Diesel engine. I have been using Amsoil for years in everything I own. From pressure washers, atvs, lawn mowers, vehicles, tractor, and weedeaters. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Amsoil. I never plan on switching back to regular crude oil. I can honestly tell you the engines run better and the oil is definitely cleaner than crude oil when it's time for an oil change... A person once told me "just look at the "ash" in the bottom of a Rotella or Castrol jug."
When I switched from Rotella 15w-40 to Amsoil 15w-40 in my tractor, there was a huge difference in noticing oil consumption when working the tractor hard.. Didn't burn NEAR as much with the Amsoil. This is the truth.

Next time the transmission/hydraulics get warm enough to drain, I'm switching to Amsoil synthetic 5w-30. Got (2) 5 gallon buckets sitting here waiting now!

in general..I don't mind ( usually like ).. to use a C rated oil with an s rating for a gasser.. but it would depend on 'how old' a ford.

for something inthe pre 64 range.. I wouldn't go lower than 10w in normal weather.. for a 3 cyl 65 plus.. baring any abnormal engine issues with low oil pressure. 5w40 should be fine.

that's just my opinion.

most of my old tractors are on a 15w40 c/s rated oil. with a couple on synthetic 10w30 S rated oil, diesel pickups all on 5w40 syn now.

Mine are all 71-89 diesels. Currently I'm using 15w-40 Rotella in all those but have considered the syn version.
