I guess I could wear flip/flops or sandals out here. As long as I didn't care about foot injury. My son came out wearing sandals - one time - last summer. He finally held still long enough for me to grab the wood stob he rammed between his toes and pull it out.

Probably would have helped if I use a pair of needle nose pliers. The big 'ol pair of 12" water pump pliers were just a lot closer.

I wanted one of my 20ish yo sons to help me with a little metal working project and his came over with his industrial grade OSHA mandated flip flops. I just told him to get out of here with this things.

I still have picture of my wife as a middle aged teenager on the farm mowing with a push mower while bare footed. It must be a generational thing.

I never could, nor tried much, wearing flip flops. Although I have some well made brand sandals or flip flops by I loose them more than they are on my feet. They are good for walking to the garage from the house to get something but that is about it. They are a struggle to keep on.

I知 similar but I think it痴 because my father never ever wore them. Always working with boots or rubber boots. Though if you go to India which I have, their all driving tractors, and their driving them alright, with flip flops on. watched them one day get stuck when the tractor couldn稚 start off pulling the wagon of rocks that were at least 30-60lbs a piece. They were all loading them with only flip flops on. My father never wore shorts either so to this day it痴 s little harder for me to put a pair on and I知 not that old.

Sounds like I stepped on some open toes here, lol. Look, I'm just saying that you can tell a lot about someone by how they present themselves in certain situations. If you want to leisurely wear sandles or flip flops that doesn't make you less of a man. If you wear them when you really should have better protection for yourself, then I question your experience and sense of what is appropriate for the task at hand. Some guys are obviously clueless when it comes to getting their hands or feet dirty and it shows pretty quickly. I just hate to see someone get hurt when it was easily preventable. No different than guys that are too tough or cool for a motorcycle helmet or other gear. It's the "dress for the crash, not the ride" mentality that I have. I just find myself more often than not being thankful that I'm wearing jeans and boots and pretty much ready for anything. That doesn't mean that I think someone is less of a man for doing otherwise.

But like it or not people have tells about them. Some guys drive a luxury sedan to work every day, some a super fuel efficient or high safety rating car, some are a real beat up car or old truck. Some like me run a 3/4 ton diesel truck as my daily driver because it is my bells and whistles, family friendly, and workhorse hauler and tow vehicle all in one. Regardless, when you see that guy and what they drive most times it makes sense...it suits them and their lifestyle. If I got out of my truck wearing white shorts a pink polo and flips flops you would question it. But jeans, work boots, Carhartt T shirt and a hat, well that just makes sense.

I’ve always been one to wear clothes and footwear for whatever the job is. There are places I would not feel comfortable unless I was in a suit. But I’m not going to build fence in it. If I am doing everyday things it is usually work pants with a belt and shirt, tucked in, Red Wing pull on boots.

Casual depends on what is on the agenda. Dress to the occasion. I wear sandals frequently but I would never mow or run a trimmer in sandals. I like Sperry brand type boat shoes for slipping on around the house or even running quick errands. I have one favorite pair that are about 30 years old.

Actually I don't. One of the most irritating things I can think of is listening to someone in flip flops walking and hearing the flap, flap, flap crap.

That reminds me: Years ago when I was working at Ford I tried to help a friend of mine and his wife get a job there. On the day of aptitude testing to be considered for hire they arrived dressed as they would for a day at the beach, flip flops and shorts....they were PO'd that they didn't get hired.

Ha, ha. That picture must of been taken in spring after a long winter. Before going into town for supplies, razors, and such.
