What do you drive for a truck?

FCA/Stellantis didn't sell hundreds of thousand of several vehicles, yet kept making them. Think Hi Po Challengers and Chargers, Trackhawks, TRXs, etc.

Also, that $4,000 diesel option is about half of what it is for a Cummins in a Ram. Of course, it's not even close to half the engine.
All dealers have a 'Flagship' model/package, whatever, that isn't ment to sell itself so much, as bring intrest to the brand, and sell the more affordable/tame packages. It let's them run an ad, Fastest 0-60 in class (with an asterisk saying when properly equipped). No different the Ram 3500 ad saying now rated to tow 30,000 lbs (when properly equipped). A lot of base model chargers get sold because RT. Scatpack, Hellcat chargers. I'm sure a lot of F150s LTs got sold because of the King Ranch/Harley Davidson/old Lightings. Jeep sells base Wranglers because of Rubicon...

M37 Trucks are not all that expensive. That same model year in a Dodge Power Wagon (which shares many of the same components) in similar condition would probably start at 4 times the price of this one.

It's when you go the "resto-mod" route that they get expensive (replace with a modern diesel or V8 engine, which probably also requires new axles, transmission and transfer case, and upgraded brakes to handle the higher speeds). If you can live with a truck that is comfortable going 40-45 MPH and maxes out at 50-55, they can be a good match. If you want a "go fast" truck, you are probably better off getting a modern truck: by the time you make the changes to one of these to get it safely to highway speeds, you'll probably have the same amount of money into it (more if you are paying someone else to do the work.)

If you are seriously in the market, Check out the Dodge M37/M43 Facebook group. There are always some mentioned for sale there.
I'd be fine with slow and just enough power to get it done. Over going fast - still have one go fast ride but mostly I prefer to take the little 350cc ATV. I'll have to keep my eyes open just right now dollars will go to erasing my campground and build out the homestead.

I’m hearing Ram’s coming out with a turbo straight six gasser to replace the 392.

The engine has been out for a couple years now, being put in the new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Yes, it is the replacement for the 392. Next year it will replace the V8 engine in the Ram 1500 pickups. Twin-turbo straight 6 (following Ford's lead as far as turbos but I6 instead of V6); up to 540 HP and 521 lb-ft of torque. Impressive specs...if the engine proves durable.

The Jeep Wrangler guys are wondering when it will be put in the Wranglers (the 392 no longer a Jeep option either).

My “Summer Silverado”, 2000 Chevy 3/4 ton 2wd extended cab with 8 ft box and 6 liter V8. Florida truck with no rust and 80k miles. Hopefully, I’ll get another (40) years out of it which will take me to 100. Don’t suppose I’ll need it much after that. I don’t care for any of the trucks they are making this millennium.

Sometimes I run it with an open box, sometimes with a camper, and sometimes with a cap.

Modern Ram/Cummins trucks are amazing. Only truck I ever owned that I really liked a LOT. I want to take care of it more than any other I owned.

Diesel 1/2 tons are about done. They didn’t sell well. I think the reason is because the average guy buying an F-150 just wants a go-fast grocery getter with some badges & decals that look cool and take the kids places.

Very few 1/2 ton owners work their trucks hard. A few do, but not many. Diesels don’t make a lot of sense for that application. VW also put a big hurtin on smaller diesels.
It’s replacing the 5.7 hemi in the 1/2 ton (1500 series) trucks and the v8s in SUVs.

Ram is keeping the 6.4 hemi in the 2500/3500/4500/5500 series trucks .

I had read the 'main' source of the eco diesel problems was the high exhaust gas temp, and the EGR stuff. I'm sure it's not the source of 100% of the failures.
My dad had a eco diesel and he had lots of problem with it, transmission seal, exhaust sensor, deff sensor twice (if a sensor is faulty you have to change the whole part can't just change the sensor) all within the first 3 years of the truck life... It was supposed to be his retirement truck but he had to trade it in once the warranties expire...

I've been wondering what you did with that Tundra after the company signed it over to you. Did you get enough out of it to buy 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid?
Sold it to a friend of a friend who drove it for maybe 6 months and then he got rid of it. Don't know what became of it after that. Think I got ~$4k for it.

I have a 2020 F250, 6.7 powerstroke, crew, long bed. It's the truck for my business, but it's pretty much my daily driver. I'm always running errands for my business, when I'm not on the road.

I'm one of those people that wants one vehicle that always has all my stuff in it, for everything that might pop up. I know exactly where everything is, med kit, flashlight, jump pak, bug spray, toilet paper, hand cleaner, rags, safety glasses, ear plugs, tape measure etc. ets. And that's just in the cab. It also has a Weathergard toolbox in the back, jam packed with tools and a headache rack with some chains hanging from it.

It's been the perfect truck for my lifestyle. It's a "Lariat Fleet", so it has most of the interior comforts like leather heated/cooled seats, dual zone a/c, power fold and extend mirrors, good sound system etc, but the exterior is plain and simple with an added Ranchhand front bumper.

I keep watching this talk of electric vehicles and tightening emissions to squeeze out the fossil fuel vehicles and I just cringe, that someday what I'm driving might not be available.
