Been lurking for a while, a great forum.

We are getting ready to buy a new Ag King 2840 with Koyker 140 FEL. I happen to have a genuine 6' Gannon that I want to use around our place, prolly no more than 100 hours per year use at most. The local dealer is a friend and is located 45 miles away in Eagar, Az. This guy goes thru the new tractor with a fine tooth comb prior to deliverey even checks the valve clearences, etc.

Will it pull the 6' Gannon?

What do you think of the tractor?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think the Jinma tractors are pretty crude and very basic and of old design, but that said they typically can get the job done. The 2840 is only an 24hp tractor, if you have a heavy Gannon 6' box blade then I think you are probably asking a bit much from the tractor. However if you have basically loose/sandy soil you might get away with it??? I know with my heavy clay soil that there is no way a 6' box blade could be used with that size tractor.

Well if it dosn't work in your soil, you can always cut that 6' down to 5' or less.

I have a jinma 284 28 hp 4 wheel drive, I think the 2840 is probably the same beast with a 0 added?

if so then it will pull a 6' box blade great, I use my 284 with 6' box balde rock rake, straight blade and 5' finish mower & a 6' rotary brush hog. the brush hog was a used unit and a 5' would have been a better fit. I have not tried the 2 bottom fergy plow that came with the 6' rotary & straight blade used as well. I bought the 6' box & rock rakes new as well as 50" tiller, 5' RFM.

anyhow welcome to the forum & have fun, they work well but are not indestructable. (as I can attest to as I have a newpost here in regards to my breakage but my 284 has spent most of its life acting more of a bull dozer than a tractor. ;) )

SPIKER, I thought that too, but then I double checked.

See this link: Ag King 2840 It states, several times, that it is a 24hp tractor. Further, they sell them with 5' blades, so that also conveys a message that might imply the 6' would be too big.

OK, then what do you all think of the Ag King 3540?
If it's only $1500 more like on the DDD web site it's a no-brainer. It's a significantly bigger, stronger tractor (and loader assuming you are getting one). In terms of pulling the box blade, the smaller tractor will do it. The larger one will do it well i.e. dig deeper and/or faster. Power is nice. That 4540 now.... lol

At a New Holland dealer, $1500 buys 2 rear remotes and a canopy.

The Y385 EPA engine is just under 25HP, although many Jinma sellers insist that they still sell a 28hp tractor. It appears Ag King is just telling it like the factory does (we also have always sold this enigne as 25HP) but I do believe that it is still rated on a 12 hour duty cylce, not peak HP. I do not know what a dyno would show as peak HP but it would not surprise me if it was more than 25HP. The JM254 and JM284 tractors only have different decals.

I own a JM 354. It was a crate tractor that I did on my own. Go for the 35 hp. I would have been badly dissappointed with less HP. I only have one and half acres, but do a lot of good buddy stuff for the neighbors. I get fuel a little extra, kind of money for the work. I'm not sure what all the fuss is over the smaller hp tractors. I didn't think there was that big of difference in price, so I went with the bigger tractor and glad I did. bjr

Hello AZ High Country. I used to live in Show Low, for 13 years, and I just moved from there last year. In your location, I strongly advise against a Jinma. You can't get parts anywhere nearby and the folks in Snowflake and Round Valley who always spring up as Jinma dealers go out of business as fast as they open up. When I lived there, I came to the decision that John Deer was the only sensible option, even if you have to buy used to afford it. The Flagstaff dealer is as nearby as you can expect for NE AZ and they make weekly parts deliveries to Show Low. All you have to do is call them and they will drop off your oil filters, etc... at your home or at the local equipment rental stores. Believe me, where you live, you'll be taking a long trip to Phoenix or Albuquerque to get Jinma parts (if available), and there is no nearby dealer mechanical service at all. The Flagstaff dealer will actually pick up your tractor and return it next week, if it ever needs factory service.

The other popular brands are also tough to get service in your area:
Kubota, New Holland (Phoenix/ Tucson), Massey-Ferguson (Gallup, NM). That's why I went JD.
