Hello everyone I need some help from people who are smarter than me when it comes to this. I have some land in South Texas that I had cleared for a fence line and a home site. The contractor used a d4 and did an excellent job for me. I need an attachment for my little Ford 1100 that will keep this area clear from more growth. I need to prevent the growth from coming back along the fence line around the property. Right now it has some roots mixed in with the dirt that I don't want to get hung up on with a attachment. I don't know if I should get a chain type harrow or something else that I can pull behind my tractor to keep the plants from regrowing. There seems to be a few different attachments I could buy but I"m ignorant as to what to do. Any help would be appreciated, Larry

Larry, I suggest a good brush hog and frequent mowing. I see some native grasses in the second photo. Given the chance, they will take over. In the past, I've taken customer's land full of brush and saplings, kept it brush hogged short and then baled it for cow hay a couple of years later. I never sprayed any of these pastures, the native grasses just took over.

Do you want to keep it all dirt or just under control? How much land are we talking about here? A heavy drag would be a cheap way to keep it bare, but will require frequent use. A disk will work too and you wouldn't have to do it as often. There are all sorts of mowers and all sorts of widths, but the bigger the mower the more HP you will need. A small mower will require a lot of seat time if the fence line is very long. For my fence lines I mow with a finish mower and spray the fence itself with round up twice a year. Once in the spring and once during summer when it starts to grow back seems to be enough.

Sprayer and a bush hog.

You want a nice cleared look with no growth like in the pics? In that case, you need something that will keep the dirt turned so growth can't restablish. I would recommend a disc harrow. Many use them to maintain fire breaks. You 1100 only has 13hp? Hummmm not sure how well that will work.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions, I want to keep it just dirt along the fence line and don't really want anything to grow. Maybe a disc harrow is the way to go, I see them online at tractor supply and that is the only place I know of to buy such a piece of equipment.
