Found them along the fence line and some more near the pond.

They look like Persimmon fruit. I have a Persimmon tree in my back yard and the fruit looks nearly identical.

Looks more like the wild plums here in Texas, the leaf also looks thinner like a plum. Most persimmons I have seen when I was a kid, the fruit looked less round and slightly "bell" shaped. Either way may be a nice little "goldmine" for a pie!!

If the photos were taken recently, they aren't like any persimmon that I've ever seen. Also, its much too early for the fruit to be ripening. My guess is that you have a plum of some variety. Excellent for jams, jellies or just eatin':thumbsup:

Those are Chickasaw Plums. I have a patch of them also. They are a wild plum out here and I just pick the last of them for the season 2 weeks ago. My soil is sandy and they see to be thriving and expanding for the last 20 years. Below is a picture of my patch.

Thanks for the ID. Looks like Chickasaw plums. Pretty tasty, but small.

Definitely not like our persimmon trees or fruit. Our leaves are short and broad and shaped similar to a sand dollar. The fruit is still very green and hard and won't be ripe until late fall or even early winter. If you happen to find a fruit bearing plant DON'T eat one that's not yet ripe as they are astringent and will suck every bit of moisture from your mouth in seconds (don't ask me how I know).
