What are these metal things?!???

Curious what these are? This place used to be a small farm, dairy then beef cows, some chickens, etc up until early 70s (I bought it in 1980). If I use my metal detector I'll find them, sometimes they're part way sticking out of the ground. About 10" by 9", steel I assume 3/16" wire. They're always looped around like this...maybe off of an old farm implement?

I also metal detect on land that was farmed from the early 1700's, most recently dairy. Unfortunately, I have no idea what your material is.

They just look like pieces of fence wire to me.

They're too large diameter to be fence wire, and they're always bent around the same way. Also forgot to mention they're springy. Now I'm wondering some kind of animal trap?

That was my first thought also. Although the way it's bent I think that OldBalls might be right. It looks a lot like pieces of reinforcing mesh, perhaps somebody trimmed the ends off a roll?

They were used to fasten covers that went over the top of round hay bales.
