Might be your "anti-rattle" bolts when the ROPS is up. sometimes there is some slop in them, and they rattle and make noise. By tightening the bolts with the convenient T handles, you can eliminate that.

Not a dumb question at all.

I didn't know what they were for either as my ROPS is always up. They got used to hang my knapsack off of.
