What are some good online sources for Cat 6 cable and pass thru connectors?

Cat 5 is fine for home use. Nothing will need Cat 6 outside of specialized data facilities.
And Bill Gates reportedly said in 1985. "640k ought to be enough for anyone."

I ran cat 7 in the house. Running old tech just means when things improve, you will have to redo it. Wireless will always drop off compared to wired. If you are worried about lightning underground, you could put the wires in PVC. I would anyway. More worried about rodents than lightning.

You can buy cables and connectors on Amazon.
Isn't cat7 some bastard iteration that's not certified, uses proprietary connectors, and is kind of languishing a slow death? 🙃

I thought 6A and 8 were the standards?

Ah, but my cat 7 cables have rj45 connectors and the cables are flat. For my purposes in this house, they were perfect.

This is the last stuff I got from amazon.

It's unavailable now, but gives you an idea of what it is. I have had it in service since 2016 with no problems. You might consider the riser rated cables. Seemed like a good price point (cheaper than outdoor rated) and a little tougher jacket than regular.

I have bought from amazon, monoprice, discounthomeautomation, and homecontrols. They all seem to be okay. I agree, my local electrical supply companies and big box stores seem to be really proud of their stuff. There is so much out there it is hard to differentiate who is selling what.

I have a mix of CAT5e and CAT6e. Both work fine for my needs. I get it that we probably don't need CAT6, but with cameras getting higher and higher resolutions and more functionality they are using more bandwidth than before. CAT6 will be more interference resistant, but usually isn't a problem in a residential application. My old CAT5 is certified to 100MHz and my CAT6 is certified to 600MHz. I like the idea of the higher rating with the increasing speeds of communications. I always prefer a wired connection to wireless if I have an option especially POE IP cameras vs wifi.

I wouldn't worry about a tester. I've been pulling and making connections in my own home and some at work for over 20 years and never really needed a tester. The only time a tester has come in handy is when someone else did the work and I had to go find their mistake. Take your time, double check your work and everything should be fine. I've made over 20-30 connections in my own house and never had a bad one yet. I would recommend the crimp and cut tool for the pass through connectors though. Something like the Ideal FT-45 or similar. I've managed without one but they make life alot easier.

I always specified Superior-Essex. Not that their isn't other good cables. But this brand was always what I used. And we used millions of feet of it company wide. It always tested out very good and the scrabble wound boxes usually unwound and payed out easily.
Thanks for the name. Lowes had a 500' box of Cat 6 for $76.52 (delivered) after my military discount. I noted it's 23AWG. Amazon has it in a 1,000 ft box for $261.50
/edit - added link link to cat 6

Never heard of 23 Gauge, usually is 22 or 24. Maybe a Lowe's "Special" Cable or a typo.

If it's cold in those outbuildings be careful pulling that wire because the outer jacket will crack on indoor cable if it's too cold.

23 gauge is a common size for CAT6 cable.

What are some good pass thru RJ45 Cat6 connectors for 23 AWG?
Reading the reviews the Klien seem to be a little "tight", the "Ideal" brand may be better.
