What animal is this? And estimate age of bones?

Down by our creek on our daily walk this caught my eye.

Can you identify it? And the estimated age of the bones?

Looks like the mandible of a cow...maybe a couple years old.

I'm thinkin not a buck. Attached is a buck jawbone, of 3½ years old and it is smaller. A pic will follow of the rack of the buck.

Definitely a vegetarian by those molars!

I would guess probably a cow, possibly a horse--jawbone that thick is designed for some serious food processing--so bigger vegetarian.

Thanks to my grandson who put some black marker on a couple ping pong balls and rolled them in there. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Took me by surprise after he left for home that day. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

They can be rolled around to give the 'head' a different look - up, down, sideways, crossed.......
