Hey All, anyone familiar with these?
WESTENDORF BRUSH CRUSHER BC-4300 GRAPPLE

There is a dealer near me with a good price.

Only other option is an LS Rake Grapple in 54" near me or a 4 month wait but I really could use one now.

looking at these has me contemplating my options. The MaHindra 5010 has a lot of loader capacity but the wicked grapple recommended to me from EA is about twice what either of the above run.

I'm tempted to save a couple grand and try the 4300 since it doesn't need hydraulics but am not sure how well it will perform picking up samplings etc

I added a hydraulic grapple this year. Still getting used to how best to pick up brush.

The question I would have about a mechanical grapple is the ease of getting it to close around brush. I find myself having to reposition my grapple to grab brush several times. Not so big a problem with hydraulic control, but how easy is this with any mechanical grapple?

A friend of mine had the westendorf 'lobster pincer' grapples, worked well for him, but required repairs and upgrades aftr a few years of heavy abuse.

I am leaning towards hydraulic myself as I want a rake function as much as grapple. Being able to rake back and then scoop etc would be nice.

The LS would get me in business right away and I suppose I could sell it if and when I decide to get a wicked.

After all, with inflation that might be smart lol

After watching this video and the damage that the grapple caused, I searched out other videos. At extreme curl position when grabbing a log, I can see that there may be undo stress in a direction that would cause damage. If the lower jaw stop was adjusted so it wasn't so curled down, I'm sure it would be as bad.
