Were They Really the Good Old Days?

And the wealthy can afford to pay lobbyists and lawyers to keep their income taxes down. And then write that off on their taxes so they effectively pay nothing for the lawyers and lobbyists. We in the middle cannot afford to pay lobbyists and lawyers.

When you factor in ALL taxes (state, local, federal, excise, property, bond issues, TID's, cell phone, utilities, etc...) there is no doubt we pay more taxes than ever before as a percentage of income.

Plus now I have seen where there is a new obamacare tax on sporting goods. Cabelas published something about this. What a crock!

Cabela’s Medical Tax Mistake
Q: Does the health care law contain "hidden" tax on hunting and fishing equipment?
A: No. There is a 2.3 percent excise tax on certain medical devices. Cabela's, a Nebraska sporting goods company, applied the tax to some of its customers purchases by mistake.

It is easy to fact check many claims. There are good explanations of what the ACA does and doesn't do.

There is doubt that people with the highest income/wealth pay as much tax as they did in many of the good old days. Some research into tax rates and wealth accumulation supports this conclusion. These policies put much more tax burden on us.

They were the good old days because we were children and had no idea of the burden our parents bore for us...

I just left the bank thinking how much has changed...

There was a young man trying to cash his paycheck... it was drawn on that bank and I could not help overhearing the conversation.

He was told there would be $5 fee since he was not a customer and that he could avoid fees by opening an account.

Problem is at 17 the bank would not open an account. It is OK for the bank to collect $5 and for him to buy postal money orders at the post office...

I was 12 when I opened a Bank of America Savings account and no adult needed... branch manager said anyone old enough to be earning a paycheck is old enough to open an account.

My brother was 16 when he got his credit card at the local savings and loan without any adult... my parents did not even bank at the savings and loan. (I know I've posted this before)

They really were the good old days!

and we didn't have a care in the world.

Yessir, and even with the chores I had to do (which I never really minded), my only goal was to make sure my brother and I had enough bait so we could go fishing the next day.
