That's where all this wet stuff came from. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Although Seattle natives may find it a little colder than normal.
Weatherman says snow for game time.
Hope all will be able to make it too the game instead of being stuck on the freeway in a traffic jam. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's what happened for Super Bowl 16. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

I get to watch the superbowl live from France. Of course it comes on at midnight but I am a night owl anyway so that is fine by me.

I am going to have a couple cold beers and enjoy the game.

Sure do miss Mike Holmgren in Green Bay (I'm from Wisconsin)... Go Sea Hawks!

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

maybe we'll have to change the phrase to "The 12th Hawk" and since the 12th man is non p.c. and could be the 12th woman or the 12th midget or whatever...
why didn't texas care if the phrase was being used by us say 15 or 20 years ago???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Being a state institution, how does the trademark play out? The state sues? the school?

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

Well, the big day is here /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Living close to Pittsburgh, we have been getting plenty of coverage on all 5 local tv stations. The excitement and energy is more than I ever remember. Ten yrs. ago the Steelers played Dallas & I don't remember the coverage being this big. There sure will be alot of disappointed Steeler fans here if things don't work out in our favor. Anything can happen in a Super Bowl game. Hero's are made, as well as goats. It can be devastating to the person who makes an unfortunate mistake. Here's hoping it is a good game & may the best team win.

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

Seattle is rabid! There was a big wind storm yesterday. Report on late night news said they have 100,000 people without power. At least on this side of the state I still have power.

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

Probably a little late to post this list of notes for Super Bowl visitors. But it may help those leaving in the morning. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To all visitors, from other than Michigan, coming to the Super Bowl in January:

1. First, you must learn to pronounce the city name. It's Deh-troit. NOT DEE-troit. If you pronounce it DEE-Troit then we will assume you are from Toledo and here for the country Music hoe-down.

2. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Detroit has its own version of traffic rules... Hold on and pray!

Note: Right turns are allowed on red for most intersections - the sign saying 'no turn on red' is located behind you when you are looking for it. The police do watch these locations.

3. The morning rush hour is from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. The evening rush hour is from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday morning. Weekends are open game.

4. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear-ended, cussed out and possibly shot. If you're first off the starting line when the light turns green, count to five before going across the intersection. This will avoid getting in the way of cross-traffic who just ran their yellow light to keep from getting shot.

5. Schoenherr can ONLY be properly pronounced by a native of the Detroit metro area. That goes for Gratiot too.

6. Construction and renovation on I-94, I-96, I-75, I-275, I-375, the Lodge and Southfield Freeways are a way of life and forever. Just deal with it.

Note: Freeways have numbers and names - if you know the number the name will be referenced, if you know the name the number will be referenced.

7. If someone actually has their turn signal on, it is probably a factory defect or they are "out-of-towners"

8. All old men (or women) with white hair wearing a hat have total right-of-way.

9. The minimum acceptable speed on I-696 and I-275 is 85 regardless of the posted speeds. Anything less is considered downright SISSY. Oh, and don't even think of allowing more than one car length between cars!

10. That attractive wrought iron on the windows and doors in Detroit is NOT ornamental. DO NOT get out of your car to take pictures.

11. Never stare at the driver of the car with the bumper sticker that says "Keep honking, I'm reloading", he/she is.

12. If you are in the left lane, and only going 70 in a 60 mph zone, people are not waving because they are so friendly in Detroit. I would suggest you duck.

13. I-275, I-696, and I-75 is our daily version of NASCAR.

14. It's not M-10, it's "the Lodge".

15. That's not a lake, it's a pothole.

Note: Since this will be in the winter --- stay on real roads! There are many tales of misfortune where a vehicle went through the ice on a lake or river, or 'ice' fishers ended up floating down river or stranded and adrift --- and that’s the native people!!! Do not this try this!!

16. If someone tells you it's on Outer Drive, you better hope you have a map.

17. The Michigan left turn is simple. If you want to turn left, go a ¼ of a mile past your turn, get to the left, then make a left, then make another left, then make a right when you get back to the intersection where you wanted to turn left in the first place. NOW you have gone left.

18. And those 2 really ugly arches over Telegraph?? DON'T EVEN ASK! WE DON'T HAVE A CLUE!!

WELCOME, ENJOY YOUR STAY, BUT AVOID EYE-CONTACT WITH THE LOCALS

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

Well the game is over and it did not matter to me who won but, it is a shame when a championship game is decided by the official's. Almost every call against Seattle was not even a penalty and Big Ben was short by an inch or two. Just my opinion /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

( Almost every call against Seattle was not even a penalty and Big Ben was short by an inch or two. )

I think the pushoff in the first quarter and the blocking call were really the only bad calls of the night against Seattle.

As for the Ben TD, it looked to me like the tip of the ball crossed the line in mid-air -- before he was hit. That's all that's needed.

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

The hold that called back the pass completion to the 1 was non-existent. Even Madden, who is as candid as they come, said so.

Regardless of whether one thinks the ball crossed the plane or not, the line judge plain messed up. IF...if he believes it crossed the plane, that had to happen before the QB hits the ground. When he hits the ground, the ball is clearly short by a tiny fraction, and he then sets it across the line..AFTER he is down. The line judge hesitates, begins to signal as if he'a going to spot the ball, runs in, THEN signals TD. Wrong. He either "sees" TD initially, or he doesn't see it at all. Nothing that happened once he starts to run in should have changed his mind about whether it was short, and thus needed to be spotted, or whether it broke the plane. To me, his behavior makes the call non-credible.

I have no dog in this fight....literally, I did not care who won. I thought the game was horribly refereed, from calls to spots, to you name it. But then I maintain that the overall quality of refereeing in the NFL has deteriorated dramatically the past 10 years or so.

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

Although I am not a football official I do know a little about how these NFL guys operate. Every single call on every single play by every single official is reviewed and critiqued by the league officials, usually the monday and tuesday after the games. This tends to put tremendous pressure on these guys to get it right.

TV replay angles do not always give the exact same angle to a play that the official sees. These guys are trained to make split second decisions.

The officials also take a weekly rules refresher based on plays that happened the week before. The crew for last nights game were those officials who were the highest rated at their position for the entire season. You really have got to be consistently good to get to the Super Bowl.

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

Too bad the ref's get the blame most of the time. I didn't think either team played very well with all the hype that they had. There were a few good plays, but not what I expected. I agree with Mad that the best ref's were there and the best teams were there, just remember its high speed judgement that is determining most of the calls on all plays whether its a ref or a player. My two cents worth.

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

I thought the ball crossed the plane of the goal on the way down. I didn't think either team played like they did in the playoffs. It's too bad, watching them play at their peak would have been a lot more exciting. There was some bad calls, but Seattle screwed up too, with the poor clock management at the end of the first half and the interception at the goal line when they should have been taking the lead.

Re: WE\'RE SUPERBOWL BOUND!!!

The game was shown live, and in France I think it came on at midnight. It was very wierd to watch the game and hear the commentary all in French.

Particularly annoying was the play by play announcer who throughout the entire sportscast, called the "Pittsburg Steelers" the Pitts-burgers. As in Hamburger. Also I guess because the way their language is set up, it was not the Pittsburg Steelers is was the Steelers á PittsburGER. Grrrr.

One announce had it right but the other one pronounced it wrong all night. It reminded me of the time Wisconson was in the Rose Bowl. The announcer throughout the whole game pronounced WISconsin as WESconsin, and he was American.

for XL last night I fell asleep most of the way through the 3rd quarter and woke up the last 1:10 minutes of the game.

To bad for Seattle, I thought they were the better team initially, for the first quarter maybe. Congratualtions to Pittsburg, my their quarterback is big isn't he?
