I stopped at a tractor/trailer dealer saturday. I have been reading the forum about yanmars. I am looking for a small light duty tractor for mowing(finish+bush hogging),moving dirt around, and maintaining my 1500 foot driveway. The dealer had about 15 zen-nohs on his lot. I have convinced myself I need a fel so I want a XX10d model.

The 10 does mean it has power shift (clutchless shifting)?
A 1720 had power shift on the column.

Do I want to stay away from electronic dashes. I want to stick with idiot lights(kiss)?

The dealer says the are factory reconditioned models(all had less than 15 hours on the meter). All had fresh paint, very clean, with new tires. They had black gas tanks and wire fiber rad hoses. Lots of bad english or unfinished warning stickers on them.

The dealer had two kind of fels. One had a vtek hd sticker on it.
The other had just a a2 blue round sticker on it. I could not find any other marks. Who makes these things? The dealer did not know(red flag).

Here's some prices.

ym2000 + fel 4495 + 3000 = 7495

ym1600 + fel 3895 + 3000 = 6895

ym1500 + fel 5000 + 2800 = 7800

Lots more for 4 wheel drive?

Noname finishing mowers for $1299.

They had no parts in shop . It was just your basic trailer lights install place.(red flag).

I am still thinking about getting just a plain tractor and gettin my fel and finishing mower at another place or online.

Still looking ,

I have no idea where Arnoldsville Ga is, but you might want to take a ride over here.

Good grief. The 1600 (very old machine) is almost always a give-away as to the source of their product.

We can deliver a YM1500D (4wd) with a KOYKER loader to just about anywhere in GA for the 7800 you list---or less (yes, including shipping). Brand new Sitrex finish mower, rear chain guard, grease fitting extensions, etc. for less than the $$ quoted to you for a no name mower. Feel free to email for more info.

If the dealer doesn't know his/her merchandise, how in the heck can they help the customer?

LMTC is correct, Yanmar does not rebuild their tractors. The factory that people often refer to is more than likely a shop in Vietnam that takes the worst of the worst tractors and works them over. Here is something to ponder. The typical small diesel will go a few thousand hours, before needing a rebuild. The majority of the grey market Yanmars being imported have fewer than 1000 hours. Even for their age 20 to 30 years old, they are used for just a few hours a year in Japan. This tells me one of two things, the tractors were worn out and had to have a rebuilt or they weren't taken care of to begin with. Search this site for "factory rebuilt" or "vietnam" See how many positive storys you find versus negative ones. The 1600 is what is often referred to as an orphan or oddball. Most importers will not import it or the 1900 or 2200. Go with a brand name mower like the Sitrex, they are a high quality mower. Also if you are going to get a loader, get a brand name one and put it on a 4 wheel drive tractor. Find a shop that works on their tractors.

Prices are not good! Dealer should know who made the loaders. The Vina tractor company most likely made them. Those are not considered good models. 1610 , 2210 etc.. are good but the 1600, 2200 not so good. There u have it.....

I use Barnett tractor in New Market AL it is a little northeast or Huntsville. He has a wensite and the best contack is bu email. I got a very nice YM2020d with loader for 7,200 with a 5ft tiller. I told him what I wanted and the got me one in his next shipment. That was a few years ago but Bill gave me a better deal than I could get anywhere else. I have also heard some good things about Danni Parker in Thorsby AL. Fredericks will have the largest selection to choose from.

I don't know what dealer you got those prices from but RUN! Those are WAY too high. Too many other honest/reasonable dealers out there to buy from. Just my $0.02 worth.

I want to say thanks for all the help and places to look for yanmars. I don't mind a little motorcycle ride to see more than just one or two sitting out in front of a small feed and seed store.

I am still trying to figure out what a b means after the number. I know a d means four wheel drive. I got lots more reading to do.

Thanks,
Mudpitga

A "B" is just a later, updated model with a few refinements. Good to have. For instance a YM2000B has a temp gauge, fuel gauge, hi-back seat, more engine covering sheet metal, steel fuel tank, 4 digit hour meter, and a few others, over the standard YM2000.
