JB,
Not sure I understand the question about it being a temporary or did I have to come back....??

I paid for it, well, all but .01. Said I couldn't legally pay for it in it's entirety until the result came back from the FBI. This happened yesterday. I called twice today to see if approval came back yet, it hadn't. I'll tell ya, it's enough to really get you P.O.'d if you know what I mean!

I meant, did you just have to wait half an hour or go home with out the gun.

Since it's taking this long, I don't think it's just a system glitch, if it still doesn't go thru by tomorrow, it might be time for a little sweat.

Or they put 1 wrong character (number or letter) on the request form and system can't find an exact match, at which time a human being would have to intervene, a Govt worker human being. Might take a while. :(

JB.

Probably a system error, I have had to wait twice before. The call volume is crazy right now. I had to go back next day for my Nighthawk and my FNH 5.57
both have been in the past three months. 15 years of buying and 2 in that short of time I had to wait. No record or problems here either.

With everything you are saying...it's a crock of crap! If their system can't handle the load, then "they" need to error on the side of your right to own a firearm. You shouldn't be delayed in wanting to exercise your 2nd Amendment rights.

The demand now is greater than it has been in years. The current administration is big on gun control and people want to buy before any laws change. Gun shop inventories are low and Walmart can't keep ammo in stock. I attended a gun show and it was so crowded that you could hardly walk. People where five or six deep at each seller. On dealer said he sold over 300 guns in two days. I bought a revolver two months ago and it took 2 1/2 hours for the background check. The dealer said it would have been done in 15 minutes or less before this big rush. It's a sign of the times!

If I were to buy a hand gun, I thought I had to wait for 5 days, are you saying its the same day nowadays?
Its strange how I can get a shotgun with no waiting, as they can only fire fluffy friendly shells. ;)

It will get even harder to purchase with Blair Holts HR 45 propsed bill in Congress to require federal registration of all gun sales. Proposal to restrict all sales to licensed dealers only.
Suggest you google it and read the restrictions.

Depends on your state of residence. All dealer sales require the background check. States may impose additional restrictions if they wish. Some states have a waiting period for handguns, but not for long guns. Some states allow non dealer sales, some do not. For example Florida had/has a 3 day wait on handguns, unless you have a Florida CCW permit.

I agree that it's a system slowdown/backlog problem. I mean, there's really no other explanation, besides identity theft, and I don't think that's happened. Everything on my credit report is sound.

It's up to the state you live in how long you wait. Alabama has no waiting period for handguns or longguns. It doesn't matter if you have a CCW or not. I almost spit cheerios all over the monitor screen when I read the part about the "fluffy friendly shells" of a shotgun! Thanks, I needed that this morning! :D

I'll keep you guys posted on progress. When I called back yesterday afternoon, the gunshop guy said if he hasn't heard back anything from the FBI by 3 days, I can come get it.

10:04am this morning, got a call from the gunshop. FBI called and said "proceed". I'll post up some pics later today (possibly) of my new piece after I go pick it up.
