Tell your wife you are buying it for her..... no multiple gear-range-direction-PTO speed shifters, no multiple brake pedals or misc other 2 stage clutch, diff lock pedals, implement right there in front. Turn key and work direction control and your off. And if you back into something, you probably won't hurt the heavy steel of the PT.....

Yep. The one speed is a detriment IF you want to do pulling tasks or climb very steep hills with a load. For mowing, snow plowing, brush cutting, loader work, fork work, stuff like that, it's fine. Road transport would be slow. So they had to come up with a useful speed range.

Several PT owners here on TBN have added larger displacement wheel motors. That cut down the top end speed but made more low speed torque available. I believe the term "mountain goat" was used.

Another PT owner wanted to put larger tires on his PT400 series for beach work. But larger tires would have meant lower torque. So he paid PT to put larger displacement wheel motors on the unit. Those, coupled with the larger tires, put it about back to original speed, as I recall.

Lots of possibilities with this platform.

And remember, there is no gearbox to break, repair, maintain, $$$ . Simple and it works.
