Sand blasting uses Bernoulli effect to suck sand.
The principle BR is using is based on difference in specific gravity of water versus water-air-sand mixture. Since the air-water-sand mixture is lighter than water it is pushed up by water entering from the bottom of the pipe. Because of the velocity of water entering from the bottom is high enough it also sucks in some sand. There is an optimum volume of air to provide maximum flow. Too much or too little will lower the flow.

It's also the principle used in jet pumps. There the water pumped backdown the well is injected into the "up" pipe so that it is pointing up.

Lenny, did you get my reply? I think I had you confused with someone else. Sorry. To clean your well, get a 1in. poly pipe about 50 ft. longer than the well is deep. Put a 1 in Tee about 10 ft. above what the well is deep. Hook one end of the Tee to the pipe going down the well. Hook the other end of the Tee to the 1in poly pipe for a discharge. Hook an air compressor to the middle of the Tee. (The bigger the better). But do not exceed 100 cfm on air compressor.
Another way, is to hook a hose to the top of the poly pipe going down the well, then back flush it to wash the sediment out. Note: this method is not very reliable on deep settings and needs a lot of water flow.
Any questions contact me.

Yeah I was wondering what you were referring to. My well was dug a little over 20 years ago and when it was put in it was 72' to the bottom. It has always had around 40' of water in it even in the extreme summer. however over this period of time the water is still at the same level but it is now only 27' from the waterline to the bottom so I guess it has filled in 13' or so in that time. I still have a good stream so far but I'm wondering how much longer it will stay that way.

Bumping this thread up...

My neighbor is pulling sand from his well. It's been an ongoing problem for years. The PO had the same problems over the years. Dad built a bailer out of 2" pipe, and footvalve, and I can remember them bailing it, when I was a kid.

Seeing blueriver's idea, I'm thinking on using an old jet from a jet pump setup, to replace the "T". A NPT to black plastic pipe adapter, with tail, like his...

Although I've only had a few cups of coffeee this morning to clear the cobwebs, in my mind, I'm thinking this will work...

Comments..??
