Received a sales brochure to-day on the Welgar small square baler, they appear to be a great machine, has anyone had any experience with them.

Vermeer now owns controling interest in Welger. Next week Vermeer will release the Welger Sales Program for the USA.

Absolutely awesome balers, what else can I say. They are some of the finest balers made IMO.

The best demo of one I've seen was a bloke picking up a tightly tied bale and chucking it back in the front of the baler, which proceeded to effortlessly snap the strings and rebale it no problems.
Shows how strongly there built.

You can also kick out a serious number of bales in a day with them if you've got decent HP in front of them. In good going you can aim for 1000 bales an hour.

If the ones sold in the US are like the UK ones, and you have deep pockets, I say buy one :D

I'm assuming they'll be carried by Vermeer dealers . . . at least some if not all of them???

In my area (the netherlands) contractors use only Welger small balers. No other brand comes even close !!

I know a contractor that had 3 New Holland balers, 1 for hay, 1 for straw and one for backup.
With the Welger, they didnt have to change settings for straw or hay, and they didnt need the backup baler because the Welger just went on, year after year !

In round balers, they are equal against competition.

The Vermeer round balers do not have a chopper on their balers. Remember that 90% of hay harvested in the USA is dry matter hay. A Vermeer baler will take hay faster than a Welger. Any manufacturers baler with a chopper will take more HP to operate as well it does slow down the production. The Welger round balers do give Vermeer dealers a baler with a chopper.

In silage, bale density increases up to 20% when using blades in the intake... If it spits out 20% less bales an hour, it doesnt mean its actual capacity is less.... ;)

I think "GRRRR" will agree with this but the welger square balers were loved in the UK and were fantasticly reliable machines but it's arguable that the tines were better than an auger....?
But depending on crop and conditions...Each to their own....?
As round balers go welger were common but never really made a nice bale and were pushed into the background by belt balers like JD and NH...Somebody's going to bite my head off now but i guess area makes a difference. Here in canada i've yet to se a welger so would be weary of backup..?
As a rule welger is a good brand and makes a quality machine...?

Experience with IH balers (B45) made me wary of balers with an auger feed,
but from what I hear they are not a problem on John Deere balers.
Have not heard of any problems with the tyne set up.

Welger produces and sells 3000 round balers a year. We all live in a world market because most of the equipment we use is made from places all over the world. On Friday I was a demo of a 435 Welger baler.

Hmm... got any details on the Welger small square baler? Like min-max Hp and a seat-of-the-pants guess on price?

Thanks.

They cost an absolute bomb here in the UK, around 」20,000 GBP, so at a guess $35,000 ish?

The big models will zap the horsepower out of any tractor up to about 130 HP. Anymore than that and it is probably a waste. But I wouldnt want a whole lot less.

You can just charge on with them until you get to a point where the pickup cannot collect any faster and then just keep going that speed and the bales will all stay the same size.

It tends to be if you slow down the bale length goes skew wiff.

Whew.... $35K!! That just tore the seat right outta my pants!

And 130hp tractor.. Well, on 50 acres of hay, I'd have a hard time even turnin' a tractor that size around at the end of the field.

Thanks.

60 HP should handle The Welger AP530 Small Square Baler OK.

Does anybody know of any Welger dealers in Canada now? We have an RP200 round baler that is getting on in years, works excellent, but need to know where to get parts if it breaks down during the 5 days of good weather we get in Atlantic Canada.

In the USA, Vermeer dealers have access to Welger parts. Vermeer and Lely are co-owners of Welger. You might ask a Vermeer dealer in Canada if they can get your Welger parts for you.
