Are there any welding schools on line, on DVD or through the mail?
Thanks,
Ash

You can call Miller, Lincoln, ESAB, Thermadyne. They all have how to DVD's unsure about actual schools though.

Try your local Community collage or trade school. If there is not one close then go to your high school and ask their shop teacher for some advice!

These videos are a pretty good start. You can buy them online or at Northern Tool. Maybe other places too. A pretty solid view of the puddle and discussion on the most common basics.

I took welding at a tech school and the course was sufficient for a good student to be able to test as a certified welder if they wanted to.
My instructor was a welding engineer that had welded pipeline over the years, taught it and wrote books on the subject.
He knew his stuff and had us welding--or trying to--20 minutes after the class started.
It I wanted to weld for a living I would call the tech line at Lincoln for starters and then search the net plus ask a lot of questions from those who know how to weld correctly.
