Just to ask on a job I;m thinking of,, I have a small PTO shaft that I need to extend a few inches. closest thing to it is keystock, anything a guy should know for rod choice or will mig wire suffice even, it wont see over 20 hp or run a big implement. thanks

I would use better material to begin with unless you know what your "key stock" is made of. Hardware store stuff is little more than zinc plated doo doo. Call it "Shear stock"

If you post a pic of the PTO showing how its too short it will help a lot. I can't figure out how you're using keystock here.

If the PTO shaft is tubular, just cut it and splice in a section. Be sure to "time the U-joints" when you tack it together. See other thread regarding u-joint timing. (my post #10)

MIG wire is plenty strong for this.

thanks. Hard to find keystock up here, so a trip to my favorite metal yard yielded a 2 ft section of rectangle stock for $1.50.. so nicked the old one out and replaced the section.. thanks
