Welder Recommendations?

Yes, I think the one you mentioned, is the 175 PLUS. If you have the extra bucks, go for it. It will allow you to fine tune your welding techniques. Try both of the welding processes first, and see which one is more in your favor. The CO2 tank and regulator will add to the cost. You can rent a CO2 rig to check things out, or Stargon which is a CO2 and Argon mix.

I already have a small century mig that has co2 argon but it is like a 70 or 80 amp but a bigger one would be nice . The one I got is old, but when I bought it I wish I had spent a little more and got a larger one my brother tried to tell me but I wouldn't listen. I have a lincoln ac dc stick welder I really like it but it wont do real thin metal very well. So if I get a larger mig I wont have to buy a tank. and I would still have the 110 volt to take places if need be. I have a 5500 watt generator that would probably run either welder that I would want to take don't you beleive.

The lincoln is made in usa is the miller also?

Both of those companies manufacture welders in the U.S. and both of them are using our EH65 engines. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

On the subject of a generator running a welder, It would depend on the max setting on the welder. Take the input amps times the voltage, and that will give you the amount of watts used. You then have to consider the start up draw. A lot of the generator manufactures rate their generators at the peak wattage, What you want to go by is wattage used when welding. Your peak wattage, may be 5500, but the rms average would be .707 times that , or 3888.5 watts. I believe this is correct.
