Yes copper will work, aluminum and brass too. They also make a aluminum backer tape you can use as a backer or in the place of a purge gas if you ever get around to buying a tig and want to tig some stainless. The tape in place of purge can be really handy if you are welding large volume stainless parts that would be hard to purge with argon (like a gas tank for example), and dont want it to oxidize and rust

Does that aluminum duct tape work? Seems like the glue would flame on,,,,but it it excludes oxygen then it's all good, right?

you could use some tig wire, maybe 1/8 inch ? ( dont know how be the gaps are ) put the tig wire in the gap to fill it then mig the gap closed. move on to the next one

You could run down to Home Depot, or Lowes buy their cheapest DC stick welder, and a Tig rig, and made quick work of that project.;)

He has FOUR of these 650Gs, with 6-way (?) blade, doesn't use them, won't sell any. Not that I need to own one just seems a shame they are sitting.

This guy doesn't have the name of Mike R........... does he?

The guy could at least store one at my place where I'd promise to run it a couple hours every few months. Not Mike R.

Already made quick work of it. :D And Home Depot is a 3 hr roundtrip.

However,,,,,

My Multimatic 200 is a MIG/TIG/Stick. All I need is the MILLER 301287 TIG FOOT CONTROL CONTRACTOR KIT FOR MULTIMATIC 200, and maybe a kick in the pants to order the stuff! Anybody have opinions whether $385 is a good price? Or should I peice it together with separates. I'd want it to plug into my machine. Also need an argon bottle. And some time to learn it.

The price is good.
Before others chime in about being cheaper to piece one together keep in mind this kit has the (small) flo thru Dinse connector. A pedal from Miller or SSC will be $150-250.
Yes, you can hook up the torch other ways but Sodo's machine already has a solenoid and any other configuration would just be cumbersome. But I'm kinda picky that way. Terry

If his is machine is already set up to run Tig, with a foot pedal, and gas solenoid. That is the way to go!

The aluminum backer tape isnt just a strip of aluminum with glue. It also has some insulation, fiberglass I believe, in the center of the tape. The glue is only on the edges of the tape. The fiberglass insulation provide support to keep the weld from dripping thru. I have never used it, just know that its available.

Cant wait till you get your tig setup, you just might give me the motivation I need to really start practicing. My tig skills are terrible at best. Steel and aluminum I can do so so, but thin stainless gives me fits. I was never any good with gas welding either, Now that I think about it, I really aint that good with stick or mig. I might need to book a flight and visit Shield for a day or two.
