3 phase doesn't matter, as most 3 phase can be adapted to run on single phase. There are cheap ways and expensive ways to run 3 phase on single phase. My Bridgeport is 3 phase and runs all day on single phase, as well as most of my machines. With 3 phase, you can change direction without stopping forward motion, which cannot be done with a single phase motor.I'm going to venture a guess here and bet that there isn't anything that isn't 3 phase in the whole building. I'm actually surprised that the table full of clamps didn't get liberated along the way sometime.
I always thought 3 phase welders were the exception but found out The Dave Kamp had figured (and posted online) with help from others, a way to run 3 phase welders on single phase. I have known Dave Kamp for years and only recently found out about his endeavors in the welding field.
