Yep, that caught my eye too... At first I thought it said "possy", then I looked a little closer..

Everybody know pipeliners are tough
As far as welding with two hands, it is rare to see someon not using both hands. I have never had steady hands and if I drink coffee they are worse.

You can put your welding rod in the stinger in the middle of the rod, bend the end over that you won't be using and give it a few rotations and the coating will come off where it meets your stinger. Much easier and faster than cutting the rod in half but also makes you spend twice the money for rods.

I think you'll find most weldors use two hands. Maybe not so much with 7018 running flat fillets welds, but sometimes you just need the extra stability. Everybody's arm gets tired, and when you get tired your arm will shake to some degree.

Wow, you guys got it easy, right out in the open. The last time I was inspecting welds was in a retrofit in a large semiconductor plant. They were running new steam lines and needed one hand to hold the mirror as they welded the backside.

This is 1/8" 7014 at 130A on top of come cruddy 6010 beads. They have that feathered flat look that I saw earlier, so I thought I'd post'em up.

Nice looking welds, Ian. 7018 makes a good looking weld, better appearance than the 6010/6011. About the only drawbacks are the requirement for clean metal, tough to re-strike, and dry storage if you want to make x-ray quality welds with it.

I use either 7014 or 7018 almost exclusively, normally I can get the base metal cleaned up before I weld. If I'm into repair work, I'll pick up some 6010 or '11 for that.
