Weed in Pasture in SC

Can someone id this weed that's growing in our pastures and what will kill it. I can't seem to figure out what it is and I need to get it under control.[SUP][/SUP]

The best defense against weeds is cut, cut, cut. The thicker the grass, the fewer the weeds.

Contact your state's Agricultural Extension by email and send them a PICTURE.

We are fortunate down here in Texas to have the Texas A&M University that runs an extension service. I've sent them pictures of beetles, wasps, and weeds (in bloom) inquiring what they were and usually got an answer back in a couple of days.

That is what it is. I have cut and baled many acres of it. Decent hay, a little stemmy, quail love it. Ed

Will cows eat it in the pasture? I know horses won't touch it.

Sericea lespedeza makes good hay if cut at the right time. If you cut it when it is about 12-16" tall the stems are not too hard. Most of the reclaimed strip mine land around here was planted in it.
