Weed ID

This year we found this weed in a hay field I have had rented for several years. It is growing in a circle about 30' across. Not knowing what it was I disc mowed around it and bush hogged it later.


Anyone got any idea?




It is pretty eaten up in the second picture. There were lots of shinny blue/green beetles having lunch.

Looks like Hemp Dogbane. I've been fighting it for years in my hayfield.

By golly I think you've got it .

Glad I mowed around it, according to what I just read it's toxic to cattle even when dried.

If it's only a single area, I'd use round-up on the whole 30 feet. Tillage spreads the weed.

As much as I hate to use the stuff I might just do that.

The article I read said it's hard to get rid of otherwise.
