Wee little propane heaters - comparison?

Not off-topic at all, and in fact, one of the other things I'm confused about. That's why I've beel looking for a single page/site/whatever that compares the various types of heaters, as well as the different brands and models.

Just picked up a Mr. Heater Little Buddy at Farm & Fleet, and now I'm more confused. The pilot stays lit, and the heating surface appears to be actually burning the propane; I thought that once once the surface lights, there's no flame. Now I wonder if it's safe to run with that pilot burning in an enclosed space. It's a bigeffin' flame, too, at least twice as big as, say, the pilot on a gas kitchen stove.

So, anyone who's actually used one of the Coleman heaters, once the pad lights up, is there ANY remaining flame?

used in a tent over night with no issues. (other than it ran out of gas at about 4 am when the coldest temps hit :confused2
