WELL - I don't know about the cows but I'm sure doing my best. Why just this afternoon - there was a tremendous screaming sound - the Lab puppy woke - sniffed the air - whined a little - went into the other room - lay back down and went back to sleep. I don't know if I should be proud or slightly embarrassed.

Well, we all do what we can. :)

Interesting. I can probably tolerate an ice age for 80 - 100 years, but I'm not puttin' up with it for 350 - 400 years. ;)

The solar cycle they are talking about affects the upper atmosphere.....70+ miles up. It has nothing to do with our weather or cow gas.

I think we need more cows to produce more greenhouse gases.

And now some Russian chick is saying no sunspots for a while. A long long while.

Uh, oh. break out the snow blades and the winter clothing. :)

I watched (listened) to the first video... So does this mean that I'll be expecting a looooooooooong visit from you, James, and yours in the very near future?

Well, I dunno. I don't put a whole lot of faith in long range predictions of any kind, but it is interesting that the doom and gloom folks are saying we are in for a long sunspot drouth, and less sunspots means a net loss of solar radiation overall. Right now the sunspot levels are very low, as they should be in this part of the 11 year cycle. Of course if there are longer overlapping cycles as the Ruskie girl says, who knows, we might just be SOL for HF radio propagation and overall warming.

I do know that cycle 24 was a "disappointing" cycle, and cycle 25 hasn't started up yet. But as for seeing into the future, Well, I haven't never had much luck doing that.

Oh, I do know it is darn cold outside my door right now, but hey it is November.

Cows? I thought it was the SUV's that where causing it?

Oh, well, cows are considered a major contributor to greenhouse gasses (methane). All that cow belching and farting you know.

Sure glad no other animals fart on the planet. That could be scary!!!

Wait until the tree huggers figure out how much CO2 is emitted by the breweries, distilleries and bakeries.

Whoops. I hadn't thought about that.

Oh, well, cows are considered a major contributor to greenhouse gasses (methane). All that cow belching and farting you know.

Some time ago new regulations were considered that would require cattle farms to use backpack "fart catchers" on their cows. More reasonable minds prevailed.

Imagine the ... maintenance ... involved with that idea.

Having more cattle is a solution to producing more CO2... however the real, long-term problem will be producing enough fodder to keep them alive during the period that the increased number of them will be required.

All this whilst producing enough food for human consumption.

Humans are omnivores and do require 'greens' in our diet... I see one contributing factor in the outright banning (perhaps criminalising) of Vegans/Vegetarians*... for the sake of humanity, of course.

*Yes, they tend to emit methane in a disproportionately large amount compared to 'normal' humans, but not at the quantities required to off-set the expenditure of fodder.

To you old timers is it true what is referred to in these modern times today as PMS , way way long ago was called "mad cow disease " ? .................. Just a wondering !

We have been in this declining cycle for many years (?1970?) but the world temperature keeps going up, not down as in past solar minimums.

Solar Cycle 24 is the 24th solar cycle since 1755, when extensive recording of solar sunspot activity began.[1][2] It is the current solar cycle, and began in December 2008 with a smoothed minimum of 2.2 (SIDC formula). There was only minimal activity until early 2010.[3][4] It reached its maximum in April 2014 with a smoothed sunspot number of only 81.8,[5] the lowest since the Dalton Minimum (early 1800s).
