WaxMan's Modifications to the 2013 Grand L 3240 cab

I think the smaller tires will mess everything up. First the ground clearance is going to be lower. I know it still higher than a B2650 but the 3240 is longer so it will be easier to high center. You loader lift height will be lower of course. I am not sure if it will mess with the loader in any other ways. My biggest concern would be the gearing. Your top speed may be as low a 8 or 10mph. That may not be a big deal if you don't drive on the road but now your high range is going be like your old medium and medium will be like low and the tractor will crawl in low. So the tractor is not going to perform properly. I would also be concerned about the gearing when in 4wd. Ideally you want the front tires to be turning within 3% of the rear tires mph.

Waxman, if you can give me tire diameters for new tires and old tires I can tell you exactly what the difference in speed will be.

I think the above statements are a little "radical". Lol! The difference is size is not that great.

As you can see below in blue, My new tires are right in line with the Kubota option on the New Grand L 5060. And it was most likely a turf tire option for my Grand L 40 also.

According to my calcs if your tractor with stock tires runs 15 mph at full speed, it will run 13 mph with new smaller tires.

Also the tires work out to have a 1.5 ratio between front and back. So any tire sizes that match that ratio will work and not cause issue with the 4wd. Nice even number of 1.5 ey?! (0;

In what can only be called a freak accident, a hapless gentleman managed to climb onto the nicely shaped roof of his Kubota tractor to save himself after he accidentally, and v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y drove his beautiful, gleaming Kubota Tractor into some quicksand. Unfortunately, the tractor was not so fortunate and was completely submerged, a total loss except for a bumper sticker that floated to the surface reading "GREEN SUCKS" (reporters at the scene had no clue what that meant, but is seemed important at the time as the rest of the tractor was just plain gone - except for some bubbles).

Accident investigators were assisted by Kubota engineers, who were summoned to the scene due to the unusual circumstances and this mishap being the first of its type. At first, wildly waving their slide rules and talking in foreign tongues, they later said they were puzzled why the tractor sank so quickly. This riddle was solved when it was discovered that the owner had taken off the original, "manly" big honkin', high flotation tires, and put on something just a little smaller. This bizarre behavior, now officially called OCTATD (Obsessive Compulsive Tiny ***** Tire Disorder - - - or ObamaCare mandatory reporting Disability Code 7734-BODC-GL32400000) by psychiatrists called to the scene due to the unusual circumstances and this mishap being the first of its type. The doctors opined that this unusual behavior was likely due to the owner ne patient trying "not to make up for something". Sadly he slipped down the slippery slope and "just went too dang small", according to the head doc. This patient kept changing to smaller and ever smaller tires and wheels, about once or twice every week, until the tractor that sank in the quicksand, due to essentially having no tire footprint of any consequence and no flotation whatsoever, was wearing in-line skate wheels, orange ones, had a minimum of 1/4 inch of ground clearance, and had a reputed top speed of 1.9 miles per week (but one heck of a LOT of grunt on DRY ground, according to the owner).

For what its worth sir, I hope you find the solution that makes you happy. I know just how it feels to have something and have that little *irk* inside that just makes it all not feel right. I lamented bigtime when buying my L4600 because every single post here tells you that you *should* get the MX5100 and I wrestled with that bigtime. But now that Ive had mine a year, I know I made the right choice for me and my application , and sleep well on my decision.

If I was in your place, Id go for Option-3, keep the extremely awesome tractor you have now with smaller wheels/tires and replace the entire backhoe setup with the smaller one. That other hoe is a nice rig and Im sure it would handle any task you asked from it.
