Has anyone used or seen a waterproof toggle switch? I am in the process of adding lights to my B7500 and I would love to find some waterproof switches. I found one a jeepparts website but when I ordered some I was told that they were no longer available. Any info or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Do you need the whole thing to be waterproof? Or just the toggle and the part that sits above the surface you mount it to?

NAPA auto parts stores around here have both, but there's a big difference in prices. If it has "marine" on it, the price triples... Some of the stores don't keep them in stock, but can get them. I've used standard switches with a rubber cover that screws on and is available separately with good results. If the back of the switch isn't going to be exposed to the elements, this works well.

My Power Trac has the little rubber boots over the switches on the dash. The rubber is fused to the nut that holds the switch in. They can be purchased at www.grainger.com

I purchased what is supposed to be a water-proof toggle switch last week at the local autoparts store. It is a single pole single throw switch good for 15 amps. The back of the switch has two wires coming out of it, all the whole back of the switch is coated with a rubber type material.

The toggle part in the front has an O-ring seal. I also purchased a rubber molded boot that screws on to the stem of the switch so nothing is exposed to the weather. The switch was around $11.00 and the rubber boot another $4.00.
They were not cheap, but if I wanted a good switch that would last.

I believe Hereaus was the manufacturer of the switch. When I get home I will check the box for a part number.

Update on water proof switch.

The company that made the switch I installed is Cole Hersee Company, 20 Old Colony Ave. Boston, MA. Phone 617-268-2100. I purchased it from a local auto parts store.

Switch number 5582-10 around $11.00
Rubber boot 81264 around $4.00

Randy,

Don't mean to wack you... I purchased some weatherproof rocker switches from Radio Shack for my worklamps with rubber boots for about $3 or 4. total...

Catalog is at my shop, so I don't know the part number right off...

John -- Where did you mount your switch and why? My L3010 has a spare blank on the dash where it looks like another switch the size of the hazard light switch would fit. I wonder if I can find a three way (off - front - rear) that would fit the slot? Trying to flip that tiny switch on the back of my rear flood in the cold with gloved fingers is a pain!

{notice left lamp,bottom, right side}
{Switch is also illuminated, packed with silicone inside and out}

Pete,
I'll try a close up picture later... switch is actually large, run hand under lamp and roll for on/off... and I always have gloves... all seasons... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

If you wire the lamps to a "live" 12vdc, you can use the individual switches to turn on/off which ones you prefer at that precise time... {when main dash lamp switch is off-everything is off-no B+ to lamps}

Randy, I'll double check, because these switches may have come from WalMart auto/electrical section for something like $2.39? {weatherproof/w-rubber boot}{maybe not Radio Shack}

John,
I'll duck the wack, or wack the duck.

Radio Shack is way across town and the auto parts store is right across the street from where I park at work. I realize the switch could be purchased for less some where else, but it was almost 5:00 PM and I wanted to complete the job that night.

if you have a boat dealer you can go to you should be able to buy a marine on\of switch with a boot for 6-7 dollars.

Available from Wal Mart, costs about $4. Looks like contacts and electrical components are brass. Looks marine grade. I put this in a $2 box from Radio Shack.
