Hi All,

I have an old L-175 with about 700 hrs on it. The steering had a bunch of play in it and I decided to check it out this weekend. When I got the steering box apart it was full of water. I had read several posts from way back that this was a problem. I disassembeled and cleaned out the box and luckly there was no rust through and the box was in reasonably good shape. I reassembled the box and adjusted the steering play with the screw adjustment on the side. The steering works great! In order not to get water in the box again I tried this. I got a rubber ball and cut in half. I cut a small hole in the end and inverted it over the steering shaft. I then installed the steering wheel and siliconed the ball to the wheel. The ball moves with the wheel and provides a rain shield. So far I think this will work. Let me know if you have any better solutions.

Yes I too had read about this.

I worry about mine.

Any way to check without pulling it apart.

Not real keen to play with anything. It aint broke so I don't want to fix it !!

Cheers
