The hydraulic system on my 2001 4100 is repeatedly getting water contamination. I completely purged and dried the system only to experience the same issue after a couple of hours of operation in wet conditions.

It finally occurred to me to check the breather valve which seems to have failed.

The exact part pictured below isn’t available so I’m looking for guidance on an alternative. Help appreciated!

Unfortunately none of the exploded views I’ve found list the PN. My understanding is the value should allow air out, but not in. Air flows easily in both directions on this one.

How much do you want to spend? A desiccant breather is the solution. We used some similar to this. We also remote mounted some breathers under the engine shroud to keep them out if the weather. The desiccant style change color when they wear out so they could last years in your application. I'm surprised you have moisture issues in your climate. More an issue in high humidity areas.

Is that breather mounted in an orientation that rain water could run in?

Is this a manual transmission or hydrostatic drive? If manual look closely at any rubber boots around the shift lever to see if they gave cracked or torn allowing moisture in.

This should be the correct part number: M805048

For some reason, it's under the Seat section in the parts catalog.

I swear this forum is better than AI. Leave it to Deere to call it out as part of the seat assembly.

If original hyd reservoir breather isn't clogged I doubt if a new breather will solve moisture getting into hyd oil. Is tractor stored inside under cover or outside?

it’s stored inside. I’m really at a loss and grasping at anything.
