:)

tractor died, blowing white smoke.
drained fuel at bowl and got 1/2 cup water.
now what?
turn starter and feed fuel to injectors?
open fuel lines, first, drain water, then try starting?
what would you do?

also, this is about the 3rd time this has happened.
before, spritzed gas into air intake and started.
this time, water may be worse.

sources of water?
condensate?
bad fuel cap? (not barn stored)

any other thoughts?

thanks.

I would tend to crack all the injector nuts to leak out the bad fuel and crank it over to purge. Give your starter a break to cool off regularly. I have no idea where your water is coming from, but I would keep a clean glass bowl to observe and drain it regularly or install a water separator if you have that much of an issue. Maybe keep your tanks full in the moist season.

Get yourself a Mr. Funnel.

Home

Drain what is in your tank - if it doesn't look too bad, you can pour it back in through Mr. Funnel. Use it all the time when fueling, that way you can rule out water coming in with the fuel. Keep using the Mr. Funnel, at least till you id the water source.

None of my tractors are stored inside, so I'm no stranger to water in the fuel. Bad caps and condensation can be tricky to pin down. Meanwhile, drain what you can, bleed your lines until you think you have the water out, then add this stuff: Power Service Diesel 911---BUY NOW!!! It has got me running when I had icy, gelled, slushy nastiness where it should have been diesel.

Good luck!

I will advise since you live in MS(not the frozen North) to drain water from fuel tank add some biocide fuel conditioner then bleed to get air/water free fuel to injectors then keep a closer watch on water seperater and drain off any water before bowl gets full.

What is your source of fuel? Do you have a storage tank? You could also look at adding an additional filter water separator. They make screw on type that look like a large oil filter.

gentlemen, thanks for the replies.
the tractor started this afternoon after I got home from work.
I drained the fuel lines from above the fuel pump back to the tank.
convinced myself there was no more water.
after a few 10 second crank cycles, the tractor started.
I ran it for 15-20 minutes; stopped-restarted 2-3 times.
thanked the Lord, and went in for supper.

I plan to ALWAYS check the sediment bowl for water.
and, I plan to keep the fuel tank full.
I buy my diesel from a reputable local station, only 5 gals at a time.

I do plan to find a sediment-bowl/filter-housing with a drain petcock.
