For most of my life only my blue jeans had a watch pocket and I seldom used it. Now, the off shore manufactures put them in most of the casual pants I buy. A habit of a lifetime has been to find my keys in the bottom of my pocket. I often search all around before it occurs to check the watch pocket. This is so irritating that I cut the watch pockets out.
Does anyone think watch pockets are useful?

I carry my Zippo in it, for easy access when starting fires in my woodstove or outside. At one time I actually carried a pocket watch, but it grew hard to find one which actually kept accurate time.

I had to stand up and check.
My Rustler jeans from Walmart don't have a watch pocket.

I use it for a 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch wide tape measure, depending on size of the pocket.

Is that what that pocket is for in my jeans? I thought you mis typed the title of this thread and meant pocket watches.

Typically a small pocket knife lives there, or folding utility knife if at work. They are perfect for a Zippo too .

Thats where I put my coins when I get change. This keeps it from mixing with the $2.05 that I carry in my pocket. Five of each coin.
Yeah I know my wife says Im crazy but thats the way I do it.

When I was a kid my jeans had those pockets. My grandfather said they were for a pocket watch. I've thought that was their original intent ever since.

That little sucker of a pocket has always been too small and tight for my fingers!

That's where my house keys live where available, car keys are in the big pocket with a little Leatherman Squirt E4... pocket knife in side pocket by knee which is the main reason I get "painters pants" or carpenter, whatever they call them when you can find them...

Before I retired I used a single master key for my house, shop, office, gates and fuel storage tanks. I kept that single key in my watch pocket. Always easy to retrieve.

I actually carry a pocket watch and the lanyard clips to my side pocket. Have a nice old Bulova my dad gave me. keeps good time and I don't like wrist watches. I must be old school but I am old anyway.

I use it for a folding knife. It separates my keys from the knife.

That's another problem. I cut part of my fingertip off a while back and it makes fishing my keys out difficult.

I love my watch pocket! I wouldn't buy a pair of jeans with one. That's not hard to do though since only really cheap jeans don't have them. But on-topic, I do use my watch pocket for my pen knife. I've carried the same pen knife for over 40 years, every day, and would not be happy at all if I lost it.

On the off-topic statement though is that I don't have a pocket watch. Never found them to be handy since wrist watches came into being. Being retired though, I don't carry a watch at all - no need for precise clock watching.

The only time I put something in that watch pocket is when I'm wearing my pocket watch, which is usually to weddings, funerals, birthdays, and other milestone family occasions. The watch belonged to my mother's mother's father. It still works and keeps perfect time. I didn't know about it's existence until a little over a year after my mother passed away. Several of my sisters got it from her belongings, had it gone over by an old watch maker, and gave it to me for Christmas back in 1989. :)

I hate that pocket. I can never get anything out of it unless it happens to be on a chain. Guess my fingers are too fat.

Let's admit it folks, it isn't that our fingers are too fat. It's that the pocket is backed by our waistlines.
