Was chipping up some white pine branches... smelled a little burnt hydraulic fluid when I moved forward a little. Didn't think much about it but I SHOULD HAVE checked! :mur: Ended up losing a few gallons... Don't know how much - heading out to buy more hydraulic fluid.

How much pressure goes through the cooler??? and the hose is held on by a hose clamp. Seriously??? I think it's been leaking since I did notice dirt / oil collecting around that area for a while. (should have been my 1st warning sign!)

This is just a heads up and check to see if your clamp is tight.

PS. I have 200 hours on this oil - planning to just buy hydraulic oil at Advance Auto as a temporary fix. I'll get enough oil to do a complete hydraulic oil change from my preferred dealer (3 hours away).

PSS. the burnt smell was because oil was splashing on the muffler.

Oil splashing on the muffler! With Tier 4 regen, that could prove exciting beyond reason. Maybe a fire extinguisher isn't such a weird idea for a diesel tractor after all? In any event, probably will a few guys out checking their L2800's!

Will double check mine. L2800 is not Tier 4 so fire not much of an issue, but 7.5 gallons of SUDT2 is. Another check for the L2800 and I think the L3000 series is the suction hose by the brake pedals cracking and sucking in air.

So best estimate, I lost 5 to 5.5 gallons of hydraulic fluid. Although, I did over fill it a little bit. I didn't have a leak`before I started chipping. It was not hot and I looked at the temp. before shutting it down and temp. was pretty low.

Personally, I hope no one else has this problem... but I remember seeing signs of (slight) leakage where dirt mixes with the oil. I didn't think much about it but I should have had a closer look to see where the oil was coming from.

Maybe, I'm the only one that the clamp wasn't secure... the rest of them were very tight.

I'll be checking my L3400 today. Thanks for the post.

Is a single hose clamp an OEM installation? Or is this an aftermarket or dealer installed option ? I'd be suspicious of the rest of the oil lines.

EDIT: You'll see below that this is FOR HST ONLY... could not change the first couple of posts.

As far as I know this is how it came from the factory. I checked the other hose clamps and they are super tight...

The more I think about it... I longer back I can remember oil and dirt mixing together around that area. If your axle is clean and the frame doesn't have oil/dirt collecting in the area. You are good to go... I actually could not see my serial number plate before the hose came "washed" it off. Again, totally my bad for not tracking down the leak sooner...

Used ~5 gallons of 7 year oil ISO 32 hydraulic fluid that was hanging around. I had to finish cleaning up after cutting a tree down. I will post photos of that tonight...

I'm pretty certain that clamp didn't come on that machine from Kubota. They use wire type hose clamps or tension clamps, not worm screw clamps.

I'll have to check my 3400 out. Will let you know if its a hose clamp like that or something else.

Bout the only leaks I have ever had was the suction hose and sight glass. Allthough last year when doing some brush I managed to run a stick through the engine oil filter. Shut it down right away as I saw it happen. Lost about a quart.
